State trying to educate people on oil changes

This topic has come up before, the old guard feels they have to change at 3k miles vs the cars computer that can let you go from 7k to 10k miles. Add changing your oil to frequently to owning a big SUV on the your killing the planet list.

State hopes to break car owners' habit of changing oil too often - latimes.com

The new GM Dexos1 oil will be required for future GM vehicles to keep their engine warrenty coverage. The price will cost consumers a lot more to maintain their vehicles during the warrenty period. Then this leaves the option for GM to make a Dexos2. Other oil manufactures are furious as that prevents consumers from using their oils to maintain their new GM vehicles.

I went to the web site listed in the article and checked a 2006 Chevrolet SSR and it came back with an answer of 3000 miles. WHAT GOOD IS THE SITE IF IT CAN'T BE CORRECT?
