Question Test

Say I collect gold coins. One day my wife asks, "how many do we have?" I say, "if I divide the coins in to two groups, then 33 times the difference between the number of coins in each group equals the difference between the squares of the two numbers." How many coins do we have?

The number of coins in the two different groups are 19 and 14

The difference is 5
33 times 5 is 165

19 squared is 361
14 squared is 196

The difference between 361 and 196 is 165

33 X (19-14) = (19 squared) - (14 squared)
165=165

Piece of cake.

Have you got something a little tougher ?

Yes, while watching a movie, reading the Preamble to the Constitution and humming God, Save the Queen.

Answer: 33, And if the answer in the question were 34, you'd have 34 coins. Any number will work, and the coins can be separated into two groups of any size.
