Mars On Aug. 27

Mars will be closer to Earth than it has been in nearly 60,000 years--- a mere 35 million miles ( 56 million kilometers)-- when it lines up with the Earth on the same side of the sun. Just go to www.nasa.gov & read it . This celestial event won't occur again until the year" 2287" so all the people alive now, this is our only chance to see something like this, IN person

Urban Legend

I couldn't find a thing about it on the NASA website. But, I did sort of remember hearing about this some months back. Sure enough... it's on the Urban Legends website:

Close Encounter with Mars on August 27

It's been circulating since 2003. And is false.

maybe this has something to do with the eclipse of the full moon on aug 28th,,the moon is full at 10:35 u.t. and the total eclipse is at 10:37 u.t.,,,so i guess we won't see the full moon for awhile during the eclipse,,,but then i really don't know anything about this stuff,,,

From the NASA site

Close Encounters with Mars

It apparently happens regularly but you can't see any difference with the naked eye. The hoax version says Mars will look as large as the moon does if viewed with 75X magnification.

So, it's true... but, there is also a hoax version that circulates every year also.

& from what I understand this happens every year. They just said that it is going to be the closest it's ever been in recorded history, & it won't be this close in a long, long time, like the year( 2287).
