Well, after being snowed in for the last five days while two winter storms passed through central and southern Alberta and dumped 16 inches of snow, today is sunny and cold!!!! 0 degrees F. The roads are icy and the road report says they are in fair winter driving condition . I quess I will now find out how good the General Grabber UHP's are in winter conditions. We head to Calgary, Ab. this morning and tomorrow we will cross into Montana and south on I 15. If all goes well we should hit Phoenix Tuesday afternoon . Wish us luck.

Good Luck on your trip. I had a set of the General's on my R and got caught in a surprise snow squall on our way to Florida. It went pretty good, but stopping was another story.
WAY TO GO, Shawn . . . next time don't wait so long.
May I suggest NO TOPLESS at least until your reach Utah.
! ! ! ! ! !
Didn't have much choice in the matter, we spent or would have been too many days in the U.S. this year if we had crossed the border before Nov. 8. We are only allowed 182 days and could be refused entry to the States if we exceed the 182 days. So we hit the dreaded Nov. snow storm and then a second storm came up from Montana and really put paid to our travels for almost a week. On the plus side, today was sunny but cold- 0 degrees F. Which is good for winter travel as the snow blows off the roads and doesn't pack down into ice. And roads covered with cobblestone ice is what we have in the cities, Edmonton and Calgary. Now a note on the General Grabber UHP tires. They are great for warm or dry pavement, great in the rain and not bad in loose snow or slush. However when the temp drops below freezing the rubber compound hardens up and you don't have much grip on snow covered ice or just plain ice. You need to have a very, very light touch on the gas and allow plenty of stopping distance. Fortunately the roads, highways, have been quite good with not much ice and no additional snow. Makes the front passanger seat ocupant quite a bit happier and keeps me from haveing to do any body work on the floorboards. I'm not saying she is a nervous passenger but every now and then I have to pull over and ask her if she would like to drive. Things get much better after that. God help me if she ever says "yes". So, tomorrow into Montana and through the mountains to the southern part of that state. Our luck is holding and Taz is chomping at the bit to run in excess of what the black and whites allow.
My son lives in eastern Montana and its snowing there and here in Utah it snowed but i15 is clear and mostly dry and the road construction is done
I have been watching the road reports and the U.S. weather service forcasts for some days now and it looks like we will have clear roads over the Mountains in Montana, Idaho and into Salt Lake. The temperature also rises the farther south we get and after Salt Lake the top comes down!!!!!!
Can't come soon enough.

While traveling through Utah watch out for our unmarked highway patrol cars, there is a blue with white graffics mustang between beaver and cedar city we see every time we go to vegas, also a grey dodge challenger. They hang out where the speed limit drops from 80-75
Shawn we have been hung up in Swift Current since the storm hit on Thursday night, the STS is useless in snow and I am towing a trailer so I myself will to be towed to the Trans Canada later today.
I will call you in a few hours to see how MT/ID I-15 stretch has been

Question... just what are the general allowances over the posted limit that one can be assured of not having to stop and chat with the Highway Patrol in MT, ID , UT and Nevada as one makes his way along Interstate 15 ?

Interesting information, we have never seen so many highway patrol cars on the interstate in all our 14 years of traveling in Utah. And the ghost cars, saw them both just where you said they would be. When I saw the Mustang I didn't think it was a patrol car, did a double take!!!! We got lucky as I didn't read your post until this evening. Also we were trying to make up time as the three hundred miles from the Canadian/U.S. border to southern Montana was mostly Ice. Montana doesn't sand the roads from the border south to the mountains and it was BAD. Worst place was right around Great Falls, north and south. Semi's in the ditch and a coouple of SUV'S wheels up!! Tomorrow top down and on to Phoenix from St. George. Roads from Dillon Montana south were quite good. Salt Lake, HOV lane fastest time through the city we ever made. It is so nice to be where it is warm again.

Not sure Richard, but we were traveling 10 over in traffic and a patrol car was in the mix, didn't stop anyone and some were more than 15 over. Go figure, but do watch out in Utah as my previous post verified the comments by another Fanatic.

Glad to hear you made it safely. That mustang is very deceiving ! The closer we get to the holidays the more patrolmen we will see. Also I got a ticket north of vegas clocked by an airplane.

Yep, we made it home about 3:00 PM today. Sunshine all the way and the top down all the way from St. George. Taz never missed a beat but it will take me a couple of days just to get all the muck off and cleaned up. Now I can really start to enjoy myself and start to add a few things to Taz.
