Internet Exployer Problem

I've been having connection problems on and off since last wekend and I thought it was my computer. I had a computer guy come over the other night and he couldn't find anything wrong with my firewall or PC. Everything was fine and my AVG 8.0 is current and working correctly. He told me that it was the modem so we got in touch with Verizon. They check everything and all sites on my favorites listing works fine except for this site. (why didn't I check on that first before calling anybody?)
So....Dascrow, Marc NY, WOW_FCTR...Whats going on? Attach is the error message that I printed out and this ONLY comes up when I'm on just this site for more then 10 - 15 minutes. All other sites on my Favorites Listing works just fine.

I am suspecting that AVG 8.0 may be causing the problems as it has added some services to the free account. Do you run another spyware? AVG Free 8.0 now includes spyware and there may be a conflict. I run it as well and have had some issues (different than your's) since I upgraded.

Also, I have noticed some conflicts with Microsoft and the newest version of Adobe Flashplayer.

I just added the AVG 8.0 about three or four weeks ago & the first week or so seem fine.
Unless I'm wrong, AVG doesn't seem to have a email address to resolve online problems.
Currently, no other firewall on my PC.

AVG is not a firewall and chances are if you are running Microsoft XP or Vista you have your software firewall turned on which shouldn't be a problem. But if you have more than one virus protector and/or spyware protector running at the same time you will have conflicts.

Microsoft upgrades every Tuesday so there may be something that is now conflicting with AVG...or not. A lot of folks swear by Firefox, you might want to try that but personally I don't like it...and rarely have trouble with IE. Have you tried going back to a restore point when you know you didn't have problems? May be worth a try.

Problem

My understanding is that one virus protection, one spyware and Microsoft has built in firewall.

As previous stated, more than one virus or spyware will confilt with each other.

Belong to Computer Club and that is what they strongly suggest.

Just glancing at the error message looks like you keep getting disconnected from the internet...other wise call your ISP to make sure their end matches your end. I had a similar issue except my dsl modem was so old it actually was starting to go out and I had no idea till they ran a test with their new demo modem.

Test your computers SPEED HERE to make sure your getting what your paying for otherwise whine to your ISP as loud as you can ---> Speak Easy (Speed Test)

Hope this helps!

Hadn't thought about that David but you are right...this used to happen to me quite often with the laptop and I thought my modem was bad until I went back to my wired desk top and confirmed the connection was constant. Moved the laptop to a different spot in the house and made sure there was no interference between the wireless modem and my laptop and BAM...no more disconnects.

Well....I can start taking guesses.....

Is your connection a hard DSL line or wireless?
When you get this error, are you accessing threads with pictures?
Do you use a cordless phone? (only matters if you are using wireless connection)?
Do you spend more than 15 minutes on your other favorite sites?

I'll ask more questions when I get the answers to these...

I got an email late last night from AVG folks and they ask me to try a couple of things and let them know what happens. I'll deal with it tonight after dinner.

Unhappy No No No I'm not going to stir the pot......................

When Maui Mike and myself started having problems most of you said no problems here, well it's catching up to all. We've checked everything and there's one three word answer.....It's This Site....since the take over....I have no other problems on any other site I go too...

Slowest site I visit, if it weren't for the friends we have met here (wait a pig and a duck maybe I am ) and to keep in touch with them I wouldn't visit this site anymore...

Happying everyone

I've solved 6 or 7 other peoples problems who thought it was a site problem...but turned out to be their computer.

I'm glad that thousands of members are using the site without any problems, which you had the same luck.

I concur with John's comments above... if this were a wide spread problem then we would have many many more complaints not just a hand full of members. There are and always will be issues, time-outs and slooow connection speeds due to many factors. Your computer or Internet provider and or our site can experience busy servers and or even servers that can go down for no known reasons and then of course some slow speeds or down time can be expected for regular updates and routine maintenance.

FYI: I have had very slow connections at work (GM) and sometimes we will get business emails telling us that their Internet provider(s) are having problems which will may make working online much slower than normal. Which seems to me to be happening more on a regular basis than not.

Yes, it is very frustrating, but this can and does happen to other sites from time to time too. Sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing you and others but I am not a tech guy and I can only call upon higher powers to be to help us out when things like this happen.

I want to thank John "WOW_FCTR" who has some good tech experience who trys his best to help us out whenever he can.
