Thumbs down The "New" Website Is Unbelievably Frustrating

Hi everyone...

I may not have a "right" to complain since I'm not a paying member, but ever since the site has switched to this "new" improved version, it is infuriatingly annoying at times to navigate.

The ads I don't like...but since I don't pay to be here, I can live with them. I can only imagine how the people who PAY to be here feel about them. Suffice it to say I'm glad I'm not a paying member.

I realize you can use different browsers, adjust settings, research how to turn things on and off, etc...but the point is that NONE of this was necessary before. Some of us don't live here, and don't research the in-and-out intricacies of the specific settings you have to waste time to seek out to make the website run SOMEWHAT like it used to whenever JoeBlow would sign on to the site from ANY server and have it run NORMALLY and EFFICIENTLY.

My main concern is the simple task of signing in...sometimes, I am told I'm not a member. Other times, after I type my name and password and click "sign in" it brings me RIGHT BACK to the opening page with no error message, as if I never attempted to sign in. Other times I can sign in, and it will tell me that I am signed in, until I go to another page. Then, suddenly, I'm not signed in anymore. Or, the MOST frustrating, is sometimes I'll be signed in, browsing topics, with the website informing me that I AM signed in, but then I will go to type a reply, and suddenly I am told that I am not signed in. Great. Or, the absolute WORST thing is when I spend time to type a response, click "send" to post the message, and THEN I am informed that I am suddenly not signed in...even though I apparently WAS to even be ALLOWED to type a response. THEN, the response that I just wasted time on typing is SUDDENLY NOT THERE ANYMORE and lost forever. Unbelievable. I can't express how frustratingly incompetent this seems.

I can't imagine how others must feel who run into similar problems who PAY to use this site.

Sorry if anyone was offended, but the "feel-good backpatting" time of "getting used" to the new website for me is officially over.

Sorry you are having problems. I am not experiencing any of those problems, and I was able to go in and turn the ads off.

I have not had any issues with the new format from the get-go and I hope your issues are resolved soon.

For those running Windows and Internet Explorer, remember to have your automatic updates turned on and clean out those temp files and cookies on a regular basis...it could make a difference.

Hi there...

Windows Updates are on...I use CCleaner to clean all temp files, cookies, etc. on every computer start-up.

My point is anything "special" shouldn't need to be performed to post or even log onto a simple website. It should work like it USED to, like MOST OTHER SITES do, without having to resort to special settings, cleaning caches and deleting cookies, using other browsers, etc.

BTW...it just did it again. I just typed that response but when I clicked "post quick reply" I got an error telling me I didn't have permission to post...but the log box in the lower left stated I was logged in and that I MAY post. I had to re-open and re-sign in a new window to make it work.

ggoat, do a search about the time the ownership change happened. I too, being a memeber, was having some of the same problems as you described. I emailed and PM the new owner and between the two of us we where able to correct most of the problems that I was encountering. Good Luck and don't give up on the site yet.

My point is that the website shouldn't have to require ANYTHING SPECIAL to use it. That's how it worked before; that's how OTHER websites work. The website should be set up to require no special adjustments by the user.

I can't express how frustrating this has been today as well...since I posted a few times yesterday I've gotten a lot of PM's...and every damn time I go to respond I have to resign in. Then, when it says "Thank you for signing in, GGOAT!!!" it then goes to a screen saying that I have to sign in again. WHY?????? Only after doing this about 20 (!) times will it let me actually respond. It's gotten so bad that now I just copy anything I type because 90% of the time it kicks me out and what I just spent time to type is LOST when the website suddenly decides I'm not logged in anymore...

Send a PM to the administrators, perhaps they can help. I have not experienced your frustration. I do not see any ads, but I do have them turned off and I am a supporting member.

Jeff, You're not alone!

Paying member here and am having all the same problems. Have done everything everyone has suggested and it still happens. Then it all works fine for awhile and it starts up again and it's slow. I mean real slow to load a page, 30 sec's. to 2 min's. Copy everything because I don't know that when I hit SUBMIT REPLY what is going to happen.

Having to email a member to reply to another members PM, is the most frustrating. Sorry drbob, I could not respond at all that day. Thanks to ShintaJay for handling the message. Then poof, it's OK again and I'm PM'ing w/ no problems.

I cannot simply EDIT a post. I have to go into Advanced Editing every single time or I get the message, not an authorized user to edit. Then when I do just go straight to Advanced, I'm logged out. Start all over again

And conspiracy theorists can have fun w/ this one, it gets worse after I make such a post as this, say ADS SUCK or post about a new forum. Usually I can't log in for hours, so I surf the threads and Gallery, then I get the Adware CRAP!

Here at work it fast with no major problems other then some pictures will not open for me. (if it from Focks or 2005SSR6speed, can't open. Their some others, but can't think of the names)

But from home, it a slower with no problem with pictures.
I'm sure its got something to do with who your internet provider is and how you got your firewall set up, etc.

You may be right RRR...at home and at work there is a hardware firewall and I don't use the windows embedded firewall...at work I'm on a T-1 and home is Verizon DSL...the speed between the two is about even. Also, run XP Pro and have stayed away from Vista since it has a few kinks in it. Don't use my Mac for online...its for graphic work only

Arrow There are still some bugs that may need working out ...

FYI: Once in a great while I too have experienced some longer delays where my web pages do not seem to load fast enough for my liking. Sometimes, although very rare, I have to go back and try to refresh the web page or in some cases I just close down the website and then relog in and start over and that seems to work for me most of the time.

Yes, there seems to be some lingering problems for some of our members who seem to still be experiencing similar issues. Since I am not a Internet connection techie I can't explain any more than what I or we have already discussed on here and in other threads before. It appears to me that the vast majority of our members do not have as many problems as some of you are still experiencing.

My connection speeds can vary a lot. While I am at work I can get some very slow response times; most likely due to the heavy Internet traffic experienced at that time of the day.

Please PM Dan "dascrow" and try to describe your issues in more detail and see if he can help you out with your problems. I do know the new owners have preformed many patches, upgrades and maintenance from time to time and that will also slow down our site's response times too.

Here at work, we employees are always notified when patches, upgrades & maintenance are taken place and are normally done after hours so I think the new owners should tell us when they are going to do those performance goodies as well… and they should do it when most of us are having our sweet dreams.

I don't believe that this has anything to do w/ firewall settings and different browers. I NEVER had problems like this before the new & improved version came to pass.

Ok

This forum is run by a business, and like it or not, they know their business. I have not encountered any slowdown of speed, etc.

Some of us have paid for our memberships, others have not. Bottom line is, it's only $ 25.00 per year, and for that 25 bucks you get a lot of friendship and camaraderie, plus the ability to post pictures.

My opinion is, live with the changes, good or bad. My gut feeling tells me the changes will eventually be for the better, just hang in there.

My $ .02.
