Refund
I paid my lifetime membership and when my yearly membership was due, it also was deducted from my paypal account. How can I get my money refunded? I thought that once I got lifetime membership it would cancel out the yearly membership. Thanks, Walter
You are not alone, many have had the same problem. The problem is with a feature apparently on PayPal that allows automatic renewal of our subscriptions. I had a the same problem when I changed to a lifetime subscription. I signed up before my subscription was up and then when my original subscription came due, it deducted that also. An email to Nadeem at nsyed@autoforums.com finally got it straightened out. It seems the "computer" was programmed to automatically renew the subscription and charge PayPal. My PayPal account had an 'automatic renew" feature that I was not aware of (didn't sign up for). Nadeem finally got it straightened out (by email) and all is well now. Good luck, this crap can be VERY frustrating!
Hope this helps,

Yes Walter you are correct it should cancel out your yearly membership dues but in very few cases there is a problem. Apparently it has been one of a few Pay-Pal issues that Autoforums has been trying to get Pay-Pal to straighten out. When you joined up as a Lifetime member Pay-Pal still thinks you are on an automatic renewal and still bills you. If you experience this problem you can contact me or you can contact Don "AF_Don" in a PM directly who is one of our owner's Administrators who can help you out.
Below is just one comment that Don had sent to another member who had some other issues with cancelling an automatic Pay-Pal account.

First, please be assured that your membership here is intact and runs through to 10-31-2011.
The message you received from eBay resulted from the cancellation of their Auto-renewal function for your membership. Yes, the message is rather confusing. We have tried to get them to change, but with no success.
They make a (rather fine) distinction between our "membership" and their "subscription". When you cancel the auto-renewal of our membership, they consider their "subscription" to be ended.
Hope this helps dispel some of the confusion. If nothing else, please know that your membership is unaffected.
Best regards... Don

Nice Walter. I got an email this week telling me that they will be charging my visa for another year. I emailed back telling them that I have a lifetime membership.

Lifetime Membership, Mike . . . are you sure or just pulling their leg?

anyway! I am currently being charged every year although I am prepaid for at least 2 years in advance! Can't seem to get it straightened out. It seems that once they have the credit information -- they just keep charging.
you have to go into your paypal account, and cancel the "subscription".
im on a few other sites that have supporting memberships, and its an automatic renewal. if you dont physically go into your account, they will renew every year. when you signed up for "supporting member", you basically gave them permission to take the $$ from your paypal acct (or cc) every year, unless you un-subscribe thru paypal.
just tried to find the page on my paypal where i cancelled a membership that was recurring, but now since its cancelled, i cant find it. :S
but i found this section on paypal regarding cancelling a subscription:
Quote:
Canceling Recurring Payments. You may cancel a Recurring Payment at any time up to 3 Business Days prior to the date the payment is scheduled to be made. To cancel a Recurring Payment, log in to your Account, access the Profile tab from the My Account tab, then click "My Preapproved Payments" and follow the instructions to cancel the payment. You may also cancel a Recurring Payment by calling at (402) 935-2050. Please keep in mind that Recurring Payments are sometimes referred to as "subscriptions" or "preapproved payments." In addition, if you cancel a Recurring Payment you may still be liable to the Merchant for the payment and be required to pay the Merchant through alternative means. We will be liable for your losses or damages directly caused by our failure to stop any Recurring Payment you cancel provided you have followed the instructions in this paragraph

That's what I did after the deduction. I canceled it. I didn't know there was a section in my paypal for that. I'm glad I found it because there was another one in there for another company. I deleated both of them. Thanks, Walter

I am thinking it may cause your status to change to "member" instead of "Supporting Member" and the resultant loss of priviliges. Of course then you can "become" a "Lifetime Supporting Member" and not have a worry. If You have paid the Lifetime in the past I would be looking for the documentation.
