Running Board Rubber Repairs

The adhesive that holds the rubber matting to my running boards is starting to detach. I'm wondering what adhesive is best to reattached these rubber matte's to the plastic running boards? Is there a preferred method to make this repair.

Thanks....

Zeke

They are held on with 3M tape, you can easily reattach that way.

Or you can take off the rubber, clean them up and use as is or paint them to match and use tread tape on top of the raised areas. I've done it all ways and enjoy all the variations. Those rubber parts are really over done for an area that I would never want to step on anyway.

I agree with this 100%.

I recently took mine off as the pads where coming loose as do they all but mostly I removed them to repaint the running boards themselves.

Like so many others I have seen it would appear they where painted the first time with a rattle can or a spray bomb as we refer to them north of the 49th.

There was so little pigment in that OEM finish that it just disappears. Particularly in the rear where the 'air blast' of air and road sand meet the rear fender. It literally cuts the finish right down to the plastic.

Once I had painted and re-installed the boards I then refreshed the rubber step pads with 3M rubbing compound and Back to Black.

I laid the rubbers back on the boards and walked around and took some pictures and walked around some more.

... and then decided the boards looked much more integrated without the big honkin black rubber pad. I asked my wife if she had ever stepped on the boards either entering or exiting and when she said "no" the decision was done. The step pads stay off.

Just a much cleaner appearance IMO

here are the pics, you guys decide for yourselves.

while I was at it I shot the engine cover

... another option I've seen is the use of a bed liner paint in place of the rubber mat.

I had Lonnie remove, lower and tuck 3". Paint and we used Linex on the ribs.

Dicktator

1. Remove -six bolts
2. no boards
3. Painted and Back on
4. When you lower and tuck, make sure you clear the body.
5. Done
