2003-07-09: Press Release - Winning eBay Bidder Takes Delivery Of Chevy SSR #2

Chevrolet dealer Bob McDorman(R) with his wife Alice and Chevrolet General Manager Brent Dewar as Dewar presents McDorman with the keys to his 2003 Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) and a poster. McDorman immediately customized the SSR with a personalized Ohio license plate reading SSR0002. McDorman tendered the highest bid for the SSR Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) 2, the second of 25 saleable vehicles produced in the SSR Signature Series. General Motors announced it would donate the second SSR built to the SAE Foundation and in turn announced the vehicle would be auctioned on eBay with proceeds used to provide funding for the Heinz C. Prechter Award for Automotive Excellence. McDorman submitted two bids during the last two minutes of the auction and outbid 96 other potential owners securing his winning bid of $137,850. McDorman's SSR is the lowest VIN sold to the public. "I'm extremely proud to be the recipient of this SSR -- When I learned SAE was auctioning this vehicle I knew that I had to have it" said McDorman. Photo: Joe Polimeni/General Motors.
