NEW GUY!!! wheel width questions

hello everybody im new...and have been looking all over the site for a few weeks now...and i could not find the answer!!!! so i joined and figured i would finally ask...

I want to do a 20x22 set on my ssr.. so what is the WIDEST you can do on the rear without modifications and still keeping it a fender flushed(or slightly tucked in) setup..do not want the wheel to stick out the wheel well at all..the truck is completely stock(suspension wise)..Hope to finally see pics and get a actually answer to this question lol..From what i hav seen 20x8.5 and 20x10 are very popular..could you do a 10.5 or 11 on the rear? without getting into problems?

Thanks guys very much!!!

I don't know the answer to your question ... However, have you look at this thread related to the 20/22 wheels? Maybe you'll find your answer there.

yes i have read all those pages and there is no answer in them..there was the one guy with forgiato's with an 11in rear wheel but pic didnt look good...and it had a rubber band tire with a big front tire and didnt really look wheel..and also had no specs on his wheels.. so there is no help..the 22x12 on there his ssr is bagged so that is no help either..i know somebody has had to go bigger than a 10 safely(if possible) and have pics and info on it...

We used 305 /40/22 on the back of Blue but we had use adjustable rear control arms and move the axle back. I promised a group of people at the tech session We would never do that again. To say the alignment was a time consuming nitemare is an understatement

The front is 8" already and the rear is 10". You can push the front to 9" if you have the additional offset to the inside, but it is not easy to do. We are really hard on front tires with the stock wheels and the additional 1" on the inside is not worth it.....

There is enough room on the rear for 12" wheels. You will have to be very careful of the offset you use. You can add 1" to both the inside and the outside of the wheel. This will put you really close to the fender, but leaves about 1/4" to 1/2" clearance.

In order to avoid the issues that Smokey had with blue truck, you will need to be mindful of the OD on the tire. The 305/40-22 that they installed were over 2" taller than the OEM size and really filled up the wheel well. If you stay with the same outside diameter tires, you can get a lot under there..... you just won't have any sidewall. (305/30-22 is the same OD as the OEM tires.....)

Disclaimer-I'm no large tire expert here!
I looked at the rear of the SSR a few days ago wondering that same thing. I admit I made no specific measurements but it seems to me there is quite a bit or space to the inside of the existing stock weels. Potentially enough to add an inch or two........but like Mike in AZ said I'm guessing you'd wanna keep the diameter close to or slightly smaller than stock. As for the fronts no checks as yet.

I am pretty sure Howard in Lakeland has 11 inch rims on his R. I don't know of anyone running twelves. I know when I replace my tires I am going with 315's.

Even the 315's will go up in smoke....

How on earth did you get the panhard bar to clear the differential cover?

I know but every little bit helps. I'm thinking some 315 nitto's will give me quite a bit more traction than I am getting from the stock tires.
