2005 Slingshot
new member

Good afternoon from Massachusetts. Yesterday I realized a 16 year dream. I purchased a 2005 Chevy SSR. I'm still pinching myself. I know absolutely nothing about the engine except it goes pretty fast and I sure like that. What I fell in love with is the look of it. I am an advid gardener and thought a small pick up would be great. But no way am I hauling mulch and plants in this baby. The dealer knew less than me about the truck so I have been researching and watching you tube video. Thank you for the video they have been extremely helpful. I haven't seen many SSR's around MA. so I am hoping to be able to find out more about my new baby on this forum.

Welcome to the club!

I know the feeling too well, just realized my dream of many years earlier this month!
Now I just look for an excuse to drive somewhere and my face muscles are hurting from permagrin.

Enjoy!

to the best forum on the net! It sounds like you are here for the long haul, so....I would recommend that you upgrade to a lifetime membership, it is not that expensive and will make using this site MUCH easier! Fill out your profile and tell us about yourself and your SSR, you might find new family close by. Think about joining a bunch of us in Maggie Valley in May, a great chance to meet many new friends and learn about your new ride.

Welcome to the club.. Your engine is a C6 Corvette engine. Maybe the BEST engine ever produced.. Visit your local Chevrolet Dealer,,, show it to em in SERVICE and ask about service stuff. You now own a GREAT truck that will only increase in value due to your EXCELLENT maintenance.. Keep your records on service and upkeep and such and ENJOY it.. Jim

Welcome aboard from the ‘Sooner state’ of Oklahoma. I hope you will enjoy your SSR, and get to know other owners in your area. There is an international rally coming up in the month of October that you might be interested in. It will be held in the Ozark mountains of Branson, MO. A beautiful place to visit that time of year. Information can be found here on the forum.

Welcome garden lady! When responding in this forum to someone's question or comment, click the little box of their response and "quote" marks show up, click that and it will duplicate their response (like I did yours) so everyone knows what your commenting about. (I'm pretty sure that's a run on sentence...)

Hi garden lady, welcome to the family. Where in MA? I grew up in Hampden, which Springfield is a suburb of.
Does your truck have a carpeted bed, is that why you don't want to haul mulch and plants? You can put down a waterproof mat to keep it clean. I bought mine new and had to travel to north Jersey to get one without the bed carpet so I could actually use it for a truck.

Best of luck, your experience with the seller is typical. The dealers didn't send many techs to GM training sessions and now many of them that were trained are gone, so the service departments know damn little about these trucks. But we've got you covered, there are some very smart people here helping the rest of us out and we've accumulated a wealth of information, plus sources, that is unequaled.

We have a few members in MA and CT, but the rarity on the road isn't just around you. There is maybe 20,000 SSRs scattered to the winds, and many of them are garage queens, so seeing one on the road isn't common. Even in FL and TX where there are tons of them, seeing one on the road isn't often.

Often wrong...... but never in doubt.
