May 9th

Celebrate in the Ogden Downtown area where the Ogden Union Station is located on 25th & Wall Ave. The local chevrolet dealer John Watson Chevrolet is going to clear the front of the lot to create a place for us to park all the SSR’s (10:00am to 4:00pm). I’m going to get some shuttle arrangements made to be able to get back and forth between the Ogden Union Station and John Watson Chevrolet which is 9 blocks away.

10:30 am / UP has a re-enactment celebration scheduled at the Union Station

12:00 pm / Union station will open to the public

Union Station has 4 small museums in it besides that’s where the Big Boy and other trains will be displayed. They have the Utah State Railroad Museum, John M. Browning Firearms Museum, Browning-Kimball Classic Car Museum and The Utah Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. All museums I’m told will be free admission during the celebration.

http://theunionstation.org/exhibitions/riding-in-style/

4:00 pm / Cruise up to the Northern Utah Graffiti Cruise Night at Peach City to hangout and eat

https://www.thepeachcity.com/

Celebrate out at Promontory Summit which is where the actual driving of the Golden Spike was (about an hour northwest of Ogden). Arrangements have been made for shuttle buses to pick us up at the motel and take us out to Promontory for $20.00 per person which includes admission. We’ll spend approximately two hours onsite at the celebration so plan on bringing chairs with you to sit on while onsite. I’ll post confirmation of receipt of seat reservations in this post as I receive them.

We'll board the buses at 11:00 am at the Best Western High Country Inn for the trip out to Promontory, which will allow us to spend two hours onsite before boarding to head back to the Best Western High Country Inn.

After we get back from Promontory, we’ll jump in the R’s and cruise down to Salt Lake City to a cruzin at the Outlaw Distillery arriving approximately 5:00pm.

http://outlawdistillery.com/?full-site=true

Then after visiting the distillery we’ll cruise over to The Hub 982 and eat from a group of food trucks with various types of foods.

Rope, put me down as maybe for now. I am wanting to chase Big Boy from Cheyenne to Ogden. Still don't know the date UP will leave Cheyenne.
As for the meal in Evanston WY, I would be in. Maybe if I am chasing Big Boy across Wyoming, we could meet and have dinner or lunch, then chase it into Ogden.

Sounds good, that’s kind of my thought was to schedule the luncheon or dinner around the time the Big Boy is passing through Evanston once we know when that is. Is dinner going to be for 1 or 2 people. Also you probably ought to book the motel also, I’m going to double check with the motel tomorrow but pretty sure there’s a full refund if canceled at least 24 hours in advance of arrival.

Rope and I have talked on the phone about this event... I'm glad to see it's getting some new hits from this new thread. It was so far off in the future when I started the related thread " Bigboy locomotive and the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike" that I didn't expect a lot of response. Carol and I are really looking forward to these events that are coming together thanks to Rope taking the helm as a local fan. Get to see the Bigboy and attend our first SSR event and the same time... life is good!

Hi everybody, I will be going to this glorious event, put me down for the steakhouse and as an experienced train chaser because I love trains and I'm a model railroader it's a good idea to travel the route to find the best spots to stop and photograph the train. I just came back from a week in Salt Lake City for the National " N " scale convention and I spent 5 hours at the Odgen Museum, which is a Terrific Museum and I also went to the Hill Air Force Base Museum while the Thunderbirds were practising for their air show the next day. I found two spots on the highway to Evanston to stop and take pictures alongside the river but I was headed toward Evanston and not toward Odgen so if someone could run the route from Evanston to Odgen and find places to take pictures that would help a lot. By the way, I won two first place awards and a second place award for my models.

Congratulations on your wins for the models. You should have gone out of your way to track down those Photo Op spots but you never know who might be headed that way between now and then and will find those spots. We just need to keep the thread active.

Carol and I are now planning to take the rv with the r in tow on a trailer and stay for the week prior to the events. Should have plenty of time to scout out good spots for photos along at least some of the route. Also plan to bring a drone to get some good video of the Bigboy in action, really looking forward to that. We'll be staying at Century rv park in Ogden, not too far from the Best Western.

The motel has a 24-Hour Cancellation policy and doesn’t require a monetary deposit just a credit card for reservation. So you can always cancel if it doesn’t work out. Consider it a little more motivation, LOL.

I gotta ponder this whole deal. It's next year and a damn long ways for those of us on the East coast.

However, as being born/raised in Omaha, Nb. (Home of Union Pacific)....It all peaks my interest. I have a daughter and grandkids in Omaha (plus High School/College) buddies....and another daughter in Denver with additional grandkids.

Wife and I might just have to consider this deal as right in line with visiting family and being part of the U.P. history.

By the way, in Omaha there was when I was growing up and well beyond teenage.......a Drive in Theater known as the (Golden Spike Drive In). As a teen, I went there many times and can't really tell ya exactly (all) about the good times I had there.

I’m pretty much using the grub list as the signup list because some are bringing RV’s. However those that are on the grub list and will need rooms I hope they don’t wait to long because the rooms in this town are running out quick!
