Perhaps the SSR was a bit of a marketing blunder but to rank it in the list of 50 worst is so sad. Although the expectations of some were not met, these trucks are stout, well built vehicles. And one hell of a hoot to drive. I'd bet the author hasn't spent much time in one.

Anyone happen to spot a research failure in this statement?

When GM decided to kick up some custom retro mojo, it commissioned the Chevy SSR, an awesome-looking hotrod pickup truck with composite body panels and a slick convertible top.

There were some in there that had to be made to get us where we are. They were not necessarily the worst of their day but were better know that those not mentioned. They also imply that there has not been anything worse built since 2004. I don't know because I have not been looking but... I am happy with my SSRs. I suspect I would also disagree if they picked the top 50 Best cars as well.

Ray, when I saw that statement whatever credibility the author may have had evaporated. He certainly didn't perform even the simplest amount of research on the SSR before making the statement about "composite body panels."

I just reread the article and I think the author's problem was power. He mentioned the truck was lazy. I have never driven an 03 or 04 so I can't comment but my 05 goes. They are very well built, no squeaks or rattles etc. I remember when the Prowler came out. I was working for Chrysler at the time. I thought the car was really cool but what a crappy engine. I think that was the downfall of that vehicle and a real dumb move on Chrysler at the time.

Yep had one .... every time I hit a puddle on the road had to turn the wipers on .... basically no tops of the fenders left .... all rotted out, plus if you "jumped" the brakes .... you had to roll it back and forth to get the calliper story release fully!! What do you expect for $100 !!

This has to be the most ridiculous car article I have ever read. Its just an Opinion Editorial or as we call it OpEd. The selections have nothing to do with being Lemons. It is the authors personal observation of cars he does not like. To have the Model T on there , Come On, Really, unless the author is 120 years old and drove one new, how can he compare it to any other automobile of the time. Same goes for many of the other cars on this list. I have to admit there are a few turds on this list but many were just unusual, low production or special vehicles.

Bertha-2003 Red with runnin boards and a tweaked tranny, ..Indy-2005 official SSR Brickyard Pace,.
It got us to click on it,...

Texasbaehr ,. Your right,.. It seems to be the opinion of the writer , not facts.
Trashing the model "T" is just Un-American.
That's the car that got the average person into personal transportation.
I wonder how the "T" forum is taking that...

We had a "K" car,.. was a piece of used butt cleaner upper.
Your knuckles hit the dash when you rolled the windows down.
motor lasted us 40k and done,.
just as well,. it rusted to the max.. ..

Most cars in the article were limited production,.
or "ahead of its time",.
Car designs soon followed the Airflow and the Edsel ..
The SSR , Prowler, and such weren't meant to replace the pickup or sedan.
The SSR was build specifically for the SSR Fanatics...Good thing,. cause this site would be kinda awkward without it.

All I know is,. I love my SSR !! and wouldnt trade it for anything..
Except a Gremlin or a Pinto.... Those things were awesome
Only thing better than a Gremlin is a stretch AMC Pacer... now theres a classic!!

Excuse me,. I just puked a little,.. some things you just cant kid about.

Leading parades since 2010,. 4th of July, Memorial, Veterans, and Mother Road 66 in Springfield ILL .

WILDBILL & CHILI PEPPER, agree with you all 100% !!! Would like to have several of those so called "blunders" ... especially that Edsel convertible, the Prowler, another Red SSR, the Corvair (had 3 of them and loved everyone of them), the AMC Gremlin, 2dr Chevy Chevette and the Pontiac Aztek. Put tires on them while at Bud's Tire and really likes test driving them and several others.

Will never forget you and Chili Pepper and all the help and loyalty at the 2015 SSR International Rally. Bob Alexander

This article would have me believe all of these are worse than the biggest POS I ever owned. (A 1978 Plymouth Volare with a slant 6 and a manual 3 speed with overdrive) I don't think so. PS, I gave the car away.

Traded in a 2008 Corvette to buy my 2005 SSR. I had 2 Corvettes and big deal everybody has a corvette. But only a few chosen people have an SSR. I love my SSR Corvette motor and tremic 6 speed. People who knock our favorite fun car should drive one before saying disparaging comment about them.

I bought a 1989 Chrysler Maserati T/C in 1990 and sold it a little over a year ago. Thought it was a very unique car and I really liked it. It was a garage queen with about 25,000 miles on it until the last 5 years at which time I told my wife to drive it. You wouldn't believe how much this car was bad mouthed. No one had anything good to say about it. It was never going to be a collector car worth a pile of dough and I cared less. Well it appears the SSR is in a similar boat and to me it doesn't matter what every body thinks. I think these are great unique trucks and there is a lot of support to the owners. So cruise on and don't ever let the derogatory articles bother you ( not that they do ).

However there were significant upgrades or 2005 & 2006, add in $5,000 to correct all the factory faults and improvements and the 05/06 is a clear winner!
