Sunday

Hello Again,
Had a pretty relaxed day driving around the countryside and taking in the local sites. We happened upon a local flea market and discovered it was the biggest on the west coast of Florida, I won't argue with them as it was pretty big, and took us most of the afternoon to walk thru most of it. We had so much fun looking at the variety of stuff for sale, that we are headed to Webster tomorrow to what they claim is the oldest Flea Market in Florida. Online reviews say you can't see it in one day, so we'll let you know. I know this may not interest everyone, but the items from the area differ from the other parts of the state / country and are just a way to get to know people off the beaten path.
In keeping with our "off the beaten path" theme, we plan on going to an International Harvester museum on Tuesday. I guess it's true, you can take the boy out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy!
Before I sign off, Lois wanted me to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. You know she had a good day - she spent it with me! Sorry, got to go now - something is hitting me in the back of my head!
See You Down The Road.

Topped the day off with a great meal at their local Olive Garden (where we witnessed one of the largest waiter tray dumps I've seen--no one was hurt or spilled on) and had a good ride in Kathy's new car that seemed to be rodent free (ask her to explain the next time you see her). We ended our visit with a quick tour of the house (we loved both the house and neighborhood) and before our goodbye's Dick gave Lois a birthday present -- a set of carbon fiber door handle 3M covers and SSRfanatic decals for both SSRs.
As Fanatics this was a special way to spend Lois's birthday. The opportunity to spend a day with Dick & Kathy was I am sure more fun for us than them but I think they enjoyed themselves also. Thanks again to both of them for a wonderful visit.
Sunday will be spent in the Tarpon Springs area visiting with friends from back home. See Ya Down The Road!!
We had a great day with Jim and Lois, Birthday Girl.

Jim lost his wallet in my house, like most SSR owners, they leave their $$ at my house.

Great conversation, excellent meal.

Monday

Hi Everybody,
We spent a relaxing day around Webster at the oldest Flea Market in Florida. They said it was big nd would be hard to see in one day and that's no lie. We walked for a little over 4 hours and saw most of the "antique" side and a little of the farmers market side. Lot of fun, plenty of parking (the SSR had a nice big space) and a lot of people. they claim 30000 people attend this one day a week market - could be right, there were a lot of people and cars parked everywhere.
Dinner tonight was take out from a local restaurant and back to our room to enjoy some TV while we ate. Nice ending to a easy day.
Tomorrow we go to the International Harvester Museum and then to visit some friends from back home who winter in the Villages.
For those who are keeping score we have went over 2500 miles so far. I know this is just a trip to the store foe Lance (pokerguy) but we have just begun this year's travels! See you all down the road!

Tuesday

Hello Family,
Another fun day, spent the morning at the International Museum and was surprised and pleased with the size of the museum and the grounds that it sets on. There are two main equipment display buildings for the machinery and a building that is a replica of a dealership and a banquet hall that has a movie running of the history of IH farm equipment and is lined with vintage signs of all types. The equipment ranges from restored(which is most of it) to some displayed outside around the grounds. There were 60+ tractors in one bldg. with IH refrigerators and other household items and the other bldg. had at least 30-40 tractors of the larger sizes along with other equipment such as combines, trucks, lawn tractors and a nice display of International Scouts. I would recommend this place to anyone with an interest in farm tractors and equipment! (this was probably way more fun for me than Lois but she did enjoy it)
The rest of the day was spent with a friend from grade / high school that moved here to The Villages. Got the nickel tour of the area (very nice and BIG) and spent the afternoon catching up.
Must get on the move to Alabama, SEE YOU ALL DOWN THE ROAD!

Wednesday

Hi Gang,
Today was a travel day. Left Ocala, Fl. and headed for Orange Beach, Alabama for a micro-rally with CAZSSR, MICDONNA and SWTRYD. Really looking forward to a few days with my SSR family! If you live in the Orange Beach area give us a shout and maybe we can meet up.
Not much to report on our travels today other than the traffic was light(a rare occurrence down here) and the road crews have made a lot of headway cleaning up the storm damage from Hurricane Michael, but they still have a long way to go.
Got checked in to our hotel and got upgraded to a suite. It will be nice to stay somewhere for a few days without repacking the luggage! The hotel and room are very nice with two separate, large rooms with 50in TVs in each room. I guess all those points are worth something after all.
Bedtime now--SEE YOU AROUND - Orange Beach!!

Thursday - friday

Spent the last two days hanging out with the rest of the SSR gang. Thursday was arrival day and getting settled in to the hotel for the rest of the gang. We got upgraded to a suite (feel sorry for the commoners in regular rooms ) and it makes a great place for all of us to hang out and plan our activities.
Friday was a day of rest for our RED, we doubled up with MicDonna to make it easier to get around. Had a good breakfast together with everyone. After breakfast our tour guide Denny(CAZSSR) led us to the docks to have a close -up look-see at the replicas of the Nina and the larger Pinta . This was a unexpected treat as they just arrived today. We got to explore the decks of both ships and marveled at how small they were. Seeing how little these ships are makes one wonder why anyone would undertake such a voyage into the unknown!
Then went to Fort Morgan to explore the remains of fort built from 1812-1833 starting out as a log and sand fort and ending up a large structure of over 30,000,000 bricks! The fort was deactivated and deeded to Alabama in 1947.
After a long day of sightseeing we had a great early evening meal at a local restaurant called Desotos, good food, good prices and great company!
Early night tonight, meeting for breakfast at 9am. See you around Orange Beach!

Yeah, money is tight on such a long trip! Just wish he would have let us in the cab. Mic did loan me $5 though - but I have to pay him back in Utah with interest - I think I should have asked more about the interest rate!!

Saturday

FUN, FUN, AND MORE FUN. That was what our day was filled with! We all met at 9 for breakfast - food was ok but the waitress must have been mad at us because she crashed every plate down like she wanted to break it. On the "plus" side she did serve the pancake syrup in a very unique unbreakable set of containers.
The rest of the day was spent going to several local establishments - FlORA-BAMA LOUNGE, Sassy Bass grille, Tacky Jacks(at least two of them) , all this was interspersed with visits to the beach and a stop at Denny & Jackie's condo complex(very nice)and of course shirt shopping.
Got back to the hotel around 8 and said our good-bye's. Sad but already planning for next year with maybe a longer stay! We also did some planning for the Utah trip/Maggie Valley , there are still a few details to iron out but we are all looking forward to May and what should be an EPIC trip!
Just want to take this opportunity to say how much we enjoyed the last couple days, Mic & Donna and Robert & Doris drove a long way to join us and Denny & Jackie were the best tour guides ever. We had a fun filled time in a great location with lots to see and do BUT it was a special time because of who we spent it with!!! Thanks to our SSRs we have found friends we never would have met. LIFE IS GOOD - even better with an SSR and the family that comes with them!
Today we will spend visiting a friend from home who moved to this area, SEE YOU DOWN THE ROAD.

Sunday

Hi Gang, we spent our last full day in Orange Beach with our friend and former shortstop/first baseman (I coached a woman's team for 20 plus years) and had a great day catching up and remembering the old days. We talked about arranging a reunion down here next year - might be a good excuse to spend a month or two here instead of a few days! She has some real estate connections that might come in handy, we did look at a few areas and a couple rental complexes - more if something develops. Also, we stopped at a local watering hole for the evening and indulged in a few Bushwackers - a tradition/addiction that I blame on the Valentines weekend gang for starting. Great time and got some good info for next year's trip.
Today is checking out, final good bye's and on to Dothan AL where we hope to meet LifeofRiley on our way thru.
SEE YOU ALL DOWN THE ROAD

Great time and got some good info for next year's trip.
Today is checking out, final good bye's and on to Dothan AL where we hope to meet LifeofRiley on our way thru.
SEE YOU ALL DOWN THE ROAD
