There's also a utube video entitled the 15 ugliest trucks. Yeah, #3. No I'm not going to link it.
You drew me out... I’ve been wondering if I could hold out and not chime in.
We all love our trucks (period). We are what they referred to in one of the segments, something like “devoted following”.
What always, always, amazes me is the SSR undoubted shows up in lists that
mentions. I tend to see these lists about once a month in various slide show type articles. I’ve got 2-3 of them pulled up now in other tabs. When people ask me about the truck and usually say how much they like it, I say “thanks” and add people either love it or hate it.
I’ll say this some folks really check it out, and my wife will tell me, “They are checking Elsie out”, or they pay zero attention. I’m glad some appreciate it, and I’m good if they don’t. I like her either way.
Regarding the styling of the truck on the episode, we all have different tastes. The owner seemed to really like it, to which I say “fair enough”.
My issues were:
A) (as mentioned by another post) They didn’t upgrade the cooling. Maybe they did, and it ended up on the cutting room floor. Not exciting/flashy stuff.
B) They re-installed the stock pan on an S/C engine. With the “cubic dollars” being thrown at the truck, the additional $ for an LC32 and S/E plate are minimal. It would have a better oil system setup, better handling, reduced head shake, etc. They would have saved time and effort. They weren’t “that informed”.
C) If they were really concerned with the trans, they would have used a 4L80. At the moment, I forgot what they used.
IMO: It wasn’t “set up for (long term) success”. A & B are easily correctable and C is likely livable, but I wish they would have spent the owners money more wisely.
