As Flassh stated, this was not broadcast in Canada, so I did not view it.

But, so many SSR Fanatics are appalled by the attitude of the guys on the show.
The owner bought the SSR based on the beauty of the vehicle but was hoping to modify it.
If I were the owner, I would be insulted by any negative comments made by the Velocity staff on my original purchase

It sounds like the show was awful, at least from an SSR lover point of view
Not sure why Velocity would televise such a negative show

Cash, I think you can go to www.Velocity.com on line and watch the episode.
Worth a try anyway.

Submitted my two cents worth to Velocity. Most likely will just be a drop in a bucket as far as they are concerned though.

Obviously we all have our own unique feelings about the show. Hereís mine. Iíve only had my R for a few months and have diligently studied what most of you have done with yours. These people trashed the truck. The grill work was trash. Looked way out of proportion. They ruined the seats. They cut safety out, and for what? I thought the door handle job sucked, sorry, but that is exactly what I thought of it. Squared odd finger holes, I think thatís what they called it. Just did not go with the body lines on the truck.
I did love the horsepower, but thatís where it stopped for me

2004 in Black and now 2005 in Black, what a pair
If you watch enough of the car shows they all follow the same script for the vehicles
1 Put an LS engine in it
2 lets put air bags on it
3 lets put bigger wheels and tires on it
4 lets cut the bumpers and tuck them in tighter
4 we have to redo the interior and paint it another color.

#1 Oh crap it already has an LS lets put a bigger one in it
#2 check they did that
#3 wait what are we going to do this already has big wheels and tires on it
#4 we can't cut the bumpers either what can we do? Someone comes up with a great idea lets cut the grill out and redo it.
#5what can we do with the interior it already has a form fitting center console so we can't do that. The seats already have every thing we could add so we have to take something away lets cut the seats down.
#5 most color changes go to black, the customer even suggested black, Wait they make these factory black. The rest of the good colors are also already used up by the factory so what is not already used? There was Green, Orange, Brown or white left from the basic colors. The doctor wanted a dark color so I guess brown was the only option.

I think we got lucky they didn't flip to the page of the truck script tv book. If they would have, they would have faked patina the truck, washed out lettering on the doors, added rust and bullet holes and a Mexican blanket seat.

I watched the show and, on at least 2 occasions within the first 1/2-hour, considered turning it off ... but I struggled through the broadcast because I wanted to see the final result. Concur with many of the comments already made; especially those concerning the unnecessarily heavy "grille mod" that added nothing to the build ... "hey, lets cut out the plastic grille bars and then add nearly identical, just slightly larger, grille bars in BILLET!". My main issue is that they changed out the LS2 with a larger LS engine, but did they do ANYTHING to address the cooling for that larger motor? I don't recall if they added a larger, more capable radiator or more powerful cooling fans? If not, this Dr. is going to be spending a LOT of time in "limp home mode".
This was my first (and LAST) time watching this particular program.

Submitting ideas and comment to them after the fact is all good, but unless someone from the show comes here and tells us what their response is, I suspect we will never know, because all are saying that is the last time they will watch. That is OK with me. I am sure there are those who liked the show, but they are not SSR Fanatics. With the comments that have been sent in I suspect there will be none from the show staff that will not make their presence known when they come to check us out.

I suspect every show they do will draw some negative feedback from people who don't agree with what they did. I also suspect the don't give a rat's ass unless the amount for any show was more than the total SSR production. But even then it's showbiz so the more buzz, even negative buzz, the better.
What are you going to tell them? You don't like the color. So what? The grille is ugly. So what? You don't like the seat mods. So what? The name of the game is customizing where the owner gets what they want/like, and what you want/like doesn't matter. That's why there are so many butt ugly customs out there.

Just for the record . . .

I agree with the posts on here so far as I never implied that I expect everyone to LOVE The Doophus as much as I do, however, . . . it wasn't so much WHAT THEY SAID as much as HOW THEY SAID IT. There is a certain standard of ethics that they totally ignored and violated.

As I clearly stated in my letter . . . everyone is entitled to their own opinion but ignorant and sarcastic comments "slamming" a particular vehicle will definitely reduce the number of viewers which in turn reduces the number of paying sponsors.

I could care less if they respond . . . writing the letter made me feel better.

The 6 speed version was supplied with the heavy duty 9.5 " rear end and only produced 395 hp. A 556 LSA should have the same, but this was not mentioned, The larger stronger 4L80 that was used has a larger case and housing, but interior firewall and floorpan mods were not mentioned. Cooling also failed the cut. The interior was well done, but could have been better with a second complimentary color or texture. The grille was a waste of time and money. more detail on the 5 bolt hubs and the 6 piston calipers would have been nice.

Conclusion.....

Hmmm....I watched the show again. Now deleted it. 12 minutes of bashing and trashing of the SSR itself in a 1 hour show was uncalled for and a waste of my life.

I do hope the Dr. enjoys his for years to come. I just rebuilt a bunch of mine and its a keeper. The jelly bean cars of today are not collectible nor have any radical lines to speak of. Permagrin forever!

UPDATE. I just copied this to their Facebook page. Take a look at the amazing comment by Linda! Kudos!

The grill they designed looks a lot like Cadillac's front grill. It really was unfortunate such a show was shown. It didn't do the people on the show or the SSR justice.
The amount of negativity from the people on the show influenced their designing of the SSR. If someone hasn't seen it, they wern't missing much. That's my 2c's.

Kin dig it

I did like the stance and the brake and 5 bolt conversion work.

They redid the interior which I kind of liked. If they were going with that look they should have went with a lighter deeper color like on some 32's. They could have either covered or modified the "golden arches" for good effect. They then added back the original door and dash trim. Ouch.

The front grill was a waste of money.

Nice engine, but IMO it is not a good fit here.

I kind of liked the root beer. The original with the stripes was bad.

I sincerely wished Kindig would have done it instead. These guys aren't close to that level.

SSR Sighting

Now that everyone knows that Velocity screwed up.
There has been a new SSR sighting.

It is on the NCIS program, the episode was "Bikini Wax",
show was first shown on 3/29/05.

I found it on the OXYGEN channel.
and it is about 30-35 mins into the show.

Gibbs & Magee are searching for a suspect at a car wash.
They show several different tricked out cars. But there in
the background you see different shot of a Torch Red
SSR. (Top up)

They showed it yesterday and it is on again today.
(Right Now) as a matter of fact.

Just another SSR sighting....

Frank.

You drew me out... I’ve been wondering if I could hold out and not chime in.

We all love our trucks (period). We are what they referred to in one of the segments, something like “devoted following”.

What always, always, amazes me is the SSR undoubted shows up in lists that @xoxoxoBruce mentions. I tend to see these lists about once a month in various slide show type articles. I’ve got 2-3 of them pulled up now in other tabs. When people ask me about the truck and usually say how much they like it, I say “thanks” and add people either love it or hate it.

I’ll say this some folks really check it out, and my wife will tell me, “They are checking Elsie out”, or they pay zero attention. I’m glad some appreciate it, and I’m good if they don’t. I like her either way.

Regarding the styling of the truck on the episode, we all have different tastes. The owner seemed to really like it, to which I say “fair enough”.

My issues were:
A) (as mentioned by another post) They didn’t upgrade the cooling. Maybe they did, and it ended up on the cutting room floor. Not exciting/flashy stuff.
B) They re-installed the stock pan on an S/C engine. With the “cubic dollars” being thrown at the truck, the additional $ for an LC32 and S/E plate are minimal. It would have a better oil system setup, better handling, reduced head shake, etc. They would have saved time and effort. They weren’t “that informed”.
C) If they were really concerned with the trans, they would have used a 4L80. At the moment, I forgot what they used.

IMO: It wasn’t “set up for (long term) success”. A & B are easily correctable and C is likely livable, but I wish they would have spent the owners money more wisely.

I didn't watch the show but did get to see the SSR on Facebook. Yes the grill bars are a little heavy looking, kinda like a Kaminari set of grill bars. But overall I think the Truck looks great. Interior is stunning and a huge improvement ,Goes well with the color which I happen to love. The wheels and stance were real nice also. Didn't care for the add on vents in the hood and the grill bars could of been better, that's about it. Overall look is great!

You are lucky you missed it. The three guys did nothing but bad mouth the R. They talked about changing the ugly front grill but actually made it look worse. I could go on and on but when they said the SSR was a turd and poorly designed that really turned me off. Everyone has their opinions but these guys were just rude and they really didn't make any big changes to the truck. Although the paint color did look good.
