taller tires

factory is 295/40/20 on rear see on hear some run smaller like 295/35/ 20 or 295/30/20
what about a bit taller say 295/45/20 or 295/50/20
don't want a pothole to jump up and damage tire or rim ?

The "stock" ride height of an SSR is TOOOOOOOOOOOOO High. No need to argue that fact.

Mine is lowered as are many that have come to realize that is what is needed to make it look right and handle right.

Now, I would have to assume you have plans to lower both the front and back of your ride if heading toward taller tires. The "plus" side of your desire would indeed be a softer ride. My Avalanche with 4WD, rides much better than my past Corvettes. One MAJOR reason is the Avalanche has taller tires with more "give".......These kids that have "roller skate" wheels with the tires sticking outside of the wheel wells and very little distance between the rim and the pavement.

Maybe to them..........looks "cool", but the ride sucks.

I like several others are running 315\35x20 on the rear. No issues with potholes on the rear. HOWEVER When I tried a shorter profile on the front a pothole bit me twice; so I went back to a stock size for the front.

Remember if you change to a taller tire your speedometer and odometer will be inaccurate so you will need to get computer reprogrammed.

I'm like you I hate "rubberband" tires, not that ours are that extreme, and, I am not a fan of Lowering!!! But as they say whatever-------

There is a black SSR with a red stripe front to rear on the sides in Dekalb County Ga or thereabouts that has I 'believe' 295/45-20R & 255/50-19F. Might be even one sidewall size up(50+55), memory fails. Vehicle seems to be at normal ride height so it looks a bit taller. The tires noticeably fill the wheel wells and give it an odd, though not distasteful look. I would look for one at a rally or show thus configured before trying it to see if it is what you truly want. Not to my taste.

I haven't heard of anyone running 315-30-20, but lots running 315-35-20.

Aspect ratio is just that - a ratio. A 315-35-20 will have a 28.7" diameter, while a 315-30-20 will have a 27.4" diameter. You lose almost 3/4" of sidewall by dropping to a 30 series.

The stock rear 295-40-20 has a 29.3" diameter. Going to a 295-45-20 will get you to a 30.5" diameter. I don't like the tractor tire look, but others are more concerned about the ride quality and live with it. I've never had an issue with ride quality.

were we live potholes pop up over night
you see they put all the main water pipes under the road
and don't plan ahead so you go buy a lot and you want water right
so they dig up the road to hook you up
then fill in with dirt who known's when they will patch it
same goes for repairs
but then again its not a daily driver so i might be ok

Seems like everyone has an opinion or Idea so here is mine. I like the tires the SSR was built with and don't like the SSR lowered. Don't want to fiddle with the speedo either. All works for me.

I'm running 295/44/20 Toyo's on the back, and I like 'em...mind you I'm the kind of guy that like's lots of sidewall. My Truck's been lowered and looks fine in my estimation.

Looks good Dennie, Don't know where it is written that if one person lowers or raises their truck everyone else is out of the loop. TO EACH THEIR OWN.
