A friend of mine has a 05 and needs to change the cluster because the other one board is bad.

Where in northeast Texas can program his new cluster can travel we are 3 hours from Dallas or Little Rock
100 miles away from Tyler or 1 hour from Shreveport.
Dealer in Texarkana can’t do it.
Thanks
Frank

It's a real pain to get that done. does the odometer readout work on the current one? If so plug it in take a photo of it. There are several places that will program the New one with the correct milage after signing an affidavit.
Some dealers can do it too but you need to bring the truck in with the orig. cluster in place.

Or if your soldering skills are good or know someone you can swap the 8 pin chip on the boards that stores the mileage. It's located above the DIC display and to the right of the shift indicator display. Put a dot of paint on the right side of each chip before removing to get correct placement. You need a hot air soldering station to safely remove and re-install the chip.

The 8 pin chip in the picture is the one that needs to be swapped. Someone that does electronic PC board repair can do this.

Update, I just did stepper motors on an 05 and the 8 pin chip is on the left and above the DIC on that one.

What is the failure symptom of the existing cluster? Cluster failure (other than stepper motors) is very obscure. I canít remember seeing one in the last 10 years......

Mike sometime ago in the past someone used a hot iron on it damaged the circuit board on it when replacing the stepper motors.
River rat worked on it couple years ago he did a great job trying to save it but it has started messing up again.
Mike Byers had a cluster out of a SSR being parted out picked that up had stepper motors replaced so just going to change it out.
Hope it will fix it for long time.

Good question,

However here is one with in the last year. He purchased a re manufactured one from digital dash solutions -- it was already programmed with mileage and VIN. I believe he had to pay $400 out front and then got most back after confirming the fix (website mentions 30 days? to be satisfied before you need to return core) he then returned his for a core and got almost half of his money back. Although they only show an 06 on ebay right now it might be worth a phone call to them, if you are sure it is the IPC and you can remove the IPC yourself.

Interesting note - he was able to confirm the fix using an IPC from an Envoy purchased from a pick and pull as a test mule. Read the following thread

https://www.ssrfanatic.com/forum/f5/...tinues-244927/

He had a battery drain and a dead DIC. You would have search his previous posts to see where we were able to determine it was the IPC that was causing his battery drain.

Frank, I think there is a Speedometer place in Dallas/Richardson that might can do it. I'll get the Phone Number if you want to call them.

Great thread...... I missed the details of DIC failure and draining battery someplace in the past...... noted.

I remember Gary talking about this cluster after he fixed it a coupe years ago. Let us know how this all turns out.

Regards,

Mike

Is that reasonable? or have you checked other places?

I think it plenty but they can do it so it is ok. Something you rarely do.

The SSR going to make a trip from northeast Texas to New Jersey in about 2 weeks so it is all good.
