I introduce you to the VIOFO A119 Pro dash camera. I show you the contents of the box and perform a firmware upgrade of the camera.
This is another dash camera from VIOFO in the A119 camera series. I installed the A119S V2 camera in my Chevy SSR last year. This is another alternative for your Chevy SSR (or any vehicle).
I'm bumping this thread a bit because I'm moving my VIOFO A119s dash cam from my Tundra to our R. Rather than a USB connector (since they're powered 24/7 in our '05 R) I'm planning on using this hardwire kit.
I was about to wire it into the console fuse box with a fuse tap and am considering using fuse #51 (marked as "Brakes") as I'd only like it powered on when the ignition is on. Tested #51 and that's the case. Any reason not to use that particular fuse?
Also, the cam's power wire needs a ground - uses a typical open-ring connector. Is there a decent, useable ground/bolt near the console fuse box? Thought about the seat mounts, but with the seats moving now and then it seems like that might be a bad idea.
The alternative is to wire it into the fuse box under the hood but I'm hesitant to try and run wires through the firewall.
Welcome any thoughts from the experts here and TIA!

When I installed a VIOFO A119S into my SSR, I used the hardwire power adapter similar to what you're attempting to add to your SSR and your VIOFO A119S camera. I used a fuse tap in the center console in my 2004 SSR to power the VIOFO camera's power adapter. There are ground lugs under the carpet behind the passenger seat where you can ground the power adapter.
There is a PDF document in Dicktator's HOW TO library with a title of "SPARE FUSE LOCATION" by Ed Borland. That will help you identify a fuse location in the center console fuse panel that you can use to add mini fuse adapter (tap) to get switched power for the VIOFO power adapter.
The following link will take you to Dicktator's Microsoft OneDrive library PDF document I mentioned above.
I ended up following the advice in this post about modifying the 12v outlets on the dash from hot 24/7 to only supply power when the key is in the accessory or on position.
So I powered the dash cam with a regular 10ft. mini UBS to USB cable and plugged it into a USB adapter in the driver's side outlet. Works perfectly!
