Auto-Owners Insurance has come through for me big time!!! They are considering my SSR as a Specialty Vehicle due to its low production numbers and issues with replacement windshields. They will cover 100% of the $1000 Wild Bill's OEM windshield and installation minus my $100 deductible. My wife is bringing the windshield home today. All I need to do is make an appointment to have it installed.!

No pictures Ed because I was at work. I should have had the wife take a few pictures though! The installer and I chatted on the phone for a while before he began and I gave him a heads up especially about the Chevrolet emblem on the hood.

I'll pick mine up Tuesday, it would be cheaper to have it shipped but I'm paranoid about it being broken in transit.
I don't need it yet, I had a small chip repaired, but my policy of, maximum speed ~ minimum altitude, has sandblasted it pretty good.

I don't blame you for picking it up your self. I think it was Mr. Bill who had a couple that were broken before he finally got a good one.

Only 9 OEM's left!

He asked me what vehicle I'll be picking it up with because the box is something like 40" x 54" x 9" I think he said. He was satisfied when I said the SSR.
I can see that size could be a pain in the butt for a UPS/Fedex box handler.

New Top Windshield Molding

The new OEM windshield should come with the top black windshield molding strip.

However, if it doesn't, I have a brand new one. GM part #15095432

When I look this part number up, it says it does not fit SSR. ???

Fits Buick Rainier
Chevy Trailblazer
GMC Envoy

Maybe you miss-typed?

The Box fit perfectly between the wheel wells of my wife's GMC Terrain.

Not sure about your part number but the windshield did come with new molding attached to it.

This number was shown on the windshield parts diagram for the SSR on the various GM websites when I bought it. I agree it also fits many other GM vehicles.

Isn't the Toyota the only truck made in America? I think the Dodge and Fords are made in Mexico and the Chevy is made in Canada

Chevy Silverado are made in Ft. Wayne, (Roanoke) Indiana. My nephew works there. They also have a plant in Flint, Michigan.

If it fits, it ships. If it doesn’t, it ships anyway. Snug on the 40"width, but the 54/55 inch length is too long. Don’t like running with the tailgate down, that’s a lot of weight bouncing on the cables. So we bungeed the gate up solid at an angle.
Windshield Replacement-ssrglass1.jpg

I could have cut the box because it’s bigger than needed, but I wanted to fill it with an aftermarket glass and sell it on fleabay. Just kidding, I may kick puppies, and take baby’s candy, but I wouldn’t stoop that low. I’ve never even been to Nigeria.

Opening the box in my living room(not married), it looks like 3 silver piggies, or alien corpses, laying on the concave(inside) of the glass.
.Windshield Replacement-ssrglass-2.jpg
Each end of the glass is captured in a foam piggie too.
It looks like they laid the glass on 2 hard foam pieces, put a hard foam piece down each side(windshield top and bottom) , then foamed the ends to stabilize it. The three foam piggies on top give protection.
.Windshield Replacement-ssrglass-3.jpg
Not heavy but awkward and in handling the 2 hard foam supports move around so not much protection on the bottom. No wonder so many arrived at the dealers busted.
Windshield Replacement-ssrglass4.jpg

I got the 50 cent tour of all the buildings. Personable guy, easy to deal with, and has a fortune tied up in new and used parts. $1000 sounds like a lot for the glass, and it is, but I seem to remember when you could still get them from GM they were in the neighborhood of $800.
Aftermarket glass is way cheaper, and I don’t give a rat’s patooty about the genuine logo. But listening to people who’ve been through it, the aftermarket glass will keep out squirrels and snow but doesn’t match the trim right.
James Dean, HUAW and CruDawg like this.
