On our truck the previous owner eliminated the plastic trim all together. We feel it looks better, don't have to worry about us or a mechanic braking it, enlarges the opening larger for air to go directly into the air cleaner. Sometimes less is more. Just my 2cents worth!
Check it out. Auggie

Is ir a reversible change? In other words can you just put the plastic part back on if you wanted?

Don't know. We like it off especially when we joined the forum it seemed like many folks were saying their's was broken either by themselves or a mechanic. There even was a thread about how to repair it with glue as it was a common problem. Kind of like the look of the front end without it. That is just our opinion. If I did replace it I prefer the chrome one and chrome grille. Everyone has different ideas and that is what custom cars and trucks are all about. Keep on TRUCKIN!
