Thanks. I have one with broken tabs. I may give this a try. I think it looks outstanding and also tight and clean.

Can you give us a list of materials and where you sourced them? and some pictures of the back showing how/where you mounted the leds.

Not going to play with the chrome spear on the SSR, but I have a few places on my pontoon boat where something like this would look awesome.

Well, I decided to try to make another one with the back tabs that were intact. The update went very smooth, no need to remove any of the OEM tabs on the back, the mod lights up well and all the parts fit good leaving everything in place.

This one is painted silver to match the truck with green backlighting to match the custom stripes.

The more I do the less problems I encounter so if anyone wants this done feel free to PM me. Takes a few days due to painting and all the fabrication.

Hi Carlos,
I do not have spare emblems, you would need to send me yours for the modification. The price is $140 plus return shipping costs. It will arrive ready to install, all you need to do is connect the wiring and install the emblem with the 3 bolts.

Let me know if you have interest in moving forward ......

No, "Light Show" does not have the mod but Dennis does.

If you want to save a few $$$ let me cut the emblem before you get the rear end repaired and they can shoot paint on it the same time that they do the other parts. Otherwise drop it off any time and I will take care of it, just need to know what LED color you want ............

Well, another project finished ......... painted the emblem yellow and installed white LED back light, the white LEDs seem brighter than previous colors I have used.

A few of you know I have been talking about doing this for some time now. Well, finally got time to finish the project so I thought I would share.

Many moons ago I bought a dilapidated CHEVROLET emblem, all the tabs were broken off and it was in very poor condition and could not be saved. First thought about just making it a smoothie, then I thought about doing something really special.

I dremeled out the letters, painted it to color match the UV and then on to figuring out how to light it. First thought was to use epoxy to fill in the letters so they would be flush with the emblem. I tried several colors and methods but there were more cons than pros with this method. I finally decided on using white translucent plastic mounted behind the emblem. This worked out great and is what you see here. I have it wired to my engine lighting wires that are remote controlled for off and on and some flashing options.

Now, on to the next project ...........

UPDATE - A few people expressed interest in having this project done to their truck too. I have decided to do a few, cost is $140 plus shipping (color match paint, colored led and fabrication with ALL factory mounting tabs kept in place). Post 33 on page 2 shows the same mod on a silver truck with green LED backlighting and a few more examples on that page as well.

Please note that the emblem must be painted. When the letters are cut it reveals the plastic, and the copper and nickel metal coatings. If you do not properly coat and seal these exposed areas you will get corrosion, peeling and lifting. For that reason, although I can modify a chrome emblem, the end result must be painted in some color of your choosing. Painting will be done in quality automotive 2 stage paint process.
I very interested in having my hood emblem converted to a lighted hood emblem. How do we contact you directly to coordinate this service

Now that simple-engineering is selling the protector for the hood ornament, how will that affect the lighted one? Will it interfere?
