This is the way it was meant to be!!

So much better than the 04 we had. No bass rattles in the doors (and I cranked it a couple of times to check it) and the rear speakers actually have sound coming from them!!! I can tell it when the speed dependent automagic volume adjustment kicks in. Mucho bettero.

I'm still going to reinstall the sub I took out of our 04 but it's not a rush job this time.

Speaking of the auto-volume...

I wasn't sure if mine didn't work or if I could not hear it (my hearing is not that hot) increasing when cruising the highway. Didn't bring it up at the dealership due to my suspect hearing situation.

Anyone else been having that problem??

P/P

Peace :flag

automagic volume adjustment

The automatic volume adjustment does NOT work on mine.
(I the radio does get louder when I put the top down, but not when I increase speed, like it does in my Z28).

How autovol works.

The Bose autovol dosen't work like that, it's more subtile. The action is dynamic, it only boosts when the music goes from loud to faint, and then only when the faint would be lost in the road noise. Even then it dosen't really get LOUD.

Music that is constantly loud, (pop, rock, CW...) just dosen't benefit from the tech.

Personally I'd prefer something that would adjust the volume based on the rise and fall of the road noise.

I am confused :confused :( sorry maybe it is a blonde moment, but in my tahoe the autovol actually has the settings min, med, hi and when I decelerate/brake the volume goes down, when I speed back up the volume goes back up.
In the SSR the auto vol has a on or off setting and that is it. When I put the top up or down the vol. goes down. that is the only time I can hear a difference and To mee it seems backwards, more noise should make the radio louder. on another note,, in the manual is mentions that your radio will do this if you have a certain radio system, now my question to you radio guys is how do we know which radio is which?

Wildcat,

No real confusion. There are two different headunits. One works as I described. The other is like your Tahoe.

Ok Thats what I was thinking. Thanks :) Why do you think they used the other one in the SSR? Can they be changed out for the other?

Look at your owners manual. The base model radio w/o the in dash cd changer is shown, and looks like the one you described from your Tahoe.

I got my 04 SSR just over a week ago and I have the Bose with the 6 disc changer in the dash. My auto volume works and has a dramatic volume change from sitting at a stoplight to moving even at 40mph. It's cold here near Chicago so no top down driving yet but it seems to be set up well tom compensate for the road noise when the top will be down. My 2000 C5 had a different type of adjustment with levels to select as well as our 03 Suburban (low, med, high) where the SSR has just on or off. I hate to say it but the numbered selection system in our Excursion and our Cobra provide 5 different speed compensating volume settings which is much nicer than just off & on. The good thing is I have no door rattles (yet) and the bass response is very good, especially the deep low frequencies, almost as good as having a seperate sub. Possibly I just happened to get lucky with not having the rattle problem.
