How autovol works.

The Bose autovol dosen't work like that, it's more subtile. The action is dynamic, it only boosts when the music goes from loud to faint, and then only when the faint would be lost in the road noise. Even then it dosen't really get LOUD.

Music that is constantly loud, (pop, rock, CW...) just dosen't benefit from the tech.

Personally I'd prefer something that would adjust the volume based on the rise and fall of the road noise.

Look at your owners manual. The base model radio w/o the in dash cd changer is shown, and looks like the one you described from your Tahoe.
