Matjow: I heard from another SSR Fanatic just today that the current 05 offering, just released, will NOT work with a 6-speed 05, because of fit or some other reason. True?

Questions

While we are asking questions...
Can CORSA supply before and after sound files?
Before and after dyno runs to show performance improvement?

TIA :cool
Ha! Good luck on getting a REAL before and after dyno curve.

I have become pretty cynical on the performance claims of most aftermarket companies. They tend to take the anomalous, best possible scenario and make it sound like that is what YOU are going to get.

The factory exhaust systems are good enough these days that the ony way a catback system is going to add SIGNIFICANT power is if it is a true dual system.

By the way, weeks after I first asked, I am STILL waiting for any actual dyno curve from the Vararam folks.

Jim G.

It may be true in regard to the 6 speed. I know that the Dynatech headers will not fit the 6 speed. But, if the 6 speed has the same factory exhaust as the auto, then the new Corsa should fit both.
matjow: The problem may be the same as what kept this exhaust system unapproved for the 05 for so long; resonance at cruising speeds.

The 6-speed has different internal transmission ratios than the automatic, and so cruises at different rpm than the automatic. At 60 mph, the 6-speed is only pulling less than 1300 rpm. That is a frequncy where exhaust resonance was indded a problem on the 03s and 04s.

Jim G
Matjow,

If you can direct me to a set of headers that will work with your system on an 05 six speed I will place the order for both today. I want a complete system, not just cat back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated:thumbs

Many Thanks,

Rob
Rob: Be sure to research actual available dyno results for any headetrs recommended to you by anyone. There are many out there that do almost nothing despite high prices. I waded through lots of jink before I settled on buying the Supermaxx headers AND the hi flow cats.

Also, the availability of inetgrated or matching (easy to install) hi flow cats is CRITICAL in order to retain not just emissions compliance, but closed loop operation. Without closed loop operation, you lose both SAFE ongoing fulltime air/fuel ratio control by the PCM AND fuel mileage (potentially a LOT since no one-time human tuning under one-time conditions can match the real time tuning ability of the computer ALL the time). Do NOT make the mistake of going without cats, and without GOOD ones.

Jim G
Jim,

Rest assured that I will not make a purchase decision without consulting you first. I appreciate your input and guidance. Have fun out there and please be safe.

My Best,

Rob
I'm not a distributor. Just a consumer like you guys. I just posted the e-mail I got from the guy at Corsa. But, I'm not the guy from Corsa.

I had the Dynatech Supermaxx Headers with Hi-Flow Cats installed on my '05 automatic about 3 months ago and I have been waiting for the '05 Corsa cat-back system to be released. I just ordered it today. Hopefully, I'll have it on by next weekend. It has been no big thrill with $2,000 headers hooked-up to a stock exhaust.
I haven't gone to thier site so I'm wondering what the price is for the system? Are they offering both the sport and touring system? JimO
corsa 05 cat back

Just ordered a set from Bob Flores. Price is about same for both products.

Matjow,

Thanks so much for posting the information. I apologize because I was under the impression that you were a factory representative. How was I to know that you were a neighbor and I was taking for granted the good jesture that you were bestowing on us all. Please post your reaction to the combination of your $2000 Headers and your cat back exhaust. Better yet, call me 813-486-3950 (cell) when you have them installed and we can hook up somewhere for an in person demonstration :lol

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge :thumbs

cat back

Hey Matjow,

Iv'e got an 03 that I installed the supermax headers on.Before the headers, I installed the Magnaflow cat back system with the 14' stainless muffler.
The Corsa system is not a true dual system Nor is the Magnaflow, however, the Magnaflow system has a 3" sigle inlet with two 2.5" outlets that give you free flow from the inlet back, whereas the corsa system has a 2.75" single inlet to a 2.5" single outlet that that has a y-pipe very similar if not exactly like thet stock system.
I can't give you any info on the resonance in the cab on a 05 or later model SSR , but the 03 is awsome and that stock vacume cleaner drone is gone.
I noticed a large difference in low end torque and throttle response and I was very satisfied with the purchase. This performance and soud was only enhanced by the addition of the Supermaxx headers.
Hopr this helps in your decision.

I Own A Corsa Touring

Yes, I'm still lurking a bit. No, I do not have an SSR, just the motor.
But I do have a Corsa Touring edition single side exit.
I am the most picky person I know when it comes to in cab exhaust resonance. I will not have it!
I would not have the Corsa had I not seen it on an 04 truck in the dealership showroom. They dressed up a new truck with 20" wheels and a Corsa Touring. I got a demo ride and was sold. You just do not hear it unless it is laboring or when you stand on it and then it is tolerable. The sound when under a heavy foot is unique to any I have ever heard. A hyper, throaty roar. I love it. While there I did hear a Sport dual rear exit and it was totally different. A raspy sound I did not care for. The Touring flows the same. It has additional perforation and packing. A material that will not show signs of deterioration for 300K miles. The same material in the Cadillac CTX exhausts.
As for true duals, they are not the optimum. A cross over pipe has to be involved for balance to get the best from it so it is not really true duals.
The Corsa muffler is a straight through design with sound porting. You can roll a tennis ball through it. It really flows very well. The pipes are quality bent and big.
Since the install I have noticed no change in MPG under normal driving habits. I have noticed the power pulls better from mid to upper range rpms.

The 05 trucks have more torque management then ever before. This will change very shortly for me.
I have the 310HP L33 H.O. 5.3. It is supposed to be the early SSR motor. Questions on this engine is what brought me to this site.
With a K&N drop in element and the Corsa she pulled 267 HP & 288 TQ on a Dyno-Jet dynamometer in Marietta GA last month. This was a Base run before installing an intercooled Magnacharger Radix blower. It is being done as I type. I get the truck back Saturday. You guys contemplating a Radix may want to check back and see the final run results. Magnuson claims a 120HP gain. I say 90. We will see.
I can post it when done if you like.

See my dyno chart below. It will be updated within a week from monday 7/11/05.

therock,

I am certain that all of us will appreciate your posting the after Magnuson Dyno Chart. Thanks very much for sharing the before chart.

My Best,

Rob
When we talk about a true dual system, we are assuming a proper one that includes some form of crossover. It is, as you said, critical.

I am VERY happy with the MTI Racing Dual Shotgun exhaust, which does include such a crossover, and also two straight through Dynatech mufflers.

Same sort of sound characteristics as what you describe the Corsa Touring to be. It is VERY quiet at low throttle settings - you could run around all day without creating "noise" if you just drive conservatively. But, when you apply just a bit more throttle, it gets very nice. Even at full throttle, it is not "loud", just satisfying, and highway cruising is a delight.

Header Help???

I posted a thread in another section and here seems better to ask it: Has anyone done headers with catback on a 6 speed as I am more concerned with volume (decibals) than power. Tone changes with long tube headers and a good "x" or "y" pipe , I know, but is there DRONE or LOUD volume?!. I have an end goal of using an LS2 edit which will help torque management particularly with headers. I mentioned in the other thread the gains I picked up using Jeremy Formado from Formado Faster Proms to do an LS1 edit on my Z06 AFTER paying for an LS1 edit, air intake and throttle body designed and produced by the original LS1 edit guy who is a supporting member of the corvetteforum.com and Z06vette.com. If anyone would like to get in thouch with him and/or set up a dyno day near Tampa Florida or the Northeast, please e-mail me
It has arrived!

:) My new, re-designed Corsa cat-back system arrived by UPS yesterday. I was going to put it in today, but the OEM system is all welded into one solid piece. So, I'll have to pick-up a chain style pipe cutter today and install the Corsa system tomorrow. :seeya
