The factory springs for the door handle have square cut ends, like the "left" end of your spring. The "right" end in your photo does appears to have a fracture failure. If that end of the spring is too short to engage the molded pin on the handle mechanism or the inner portion of the handle mechanism it will not work.

Relative to replacement, I suggest looking at an industrial supply catalog from Grainger or McMaster Carr for a 180 degree torsion spring and match the size to the one you have.

@TheRealBobJones, there ya go. Also--Welcome from Forney Texas. Consider clicking on the Colored Letter/Picture, top far right corner, go down to "Account Settings", click, and fill in your information. Especially your LOCATION and the year of your SSR, like the rest of us. Then go the the left side and click on "Signature". Also put the year of your SSR in your "Signature", and anything else you want to show in your posts, and we can help you better if you have a problem. When you finish click the "SAVE" box.

A better question is , how do you replace/reassemble this spring in the handle ?
I have parts flying everywhere.
