The 17th Annual Route 66 Mother Road Festival "Kicks Off" 2 months from today on Friday September 21st, 2018, in Springfield, Illinois. 12 to 1,500 Classic Cars, Trucks, Street Rods, Rat Rods and "Run what ya' brung" (SSR's).

The Friday Night City Light's Cruise In from the Capitol City Shopping Center to Historic downtown is truly a fun experience. 50 to 60,000 people lining the 5 mile cruise route. The nice thing about it when you get downtown they direct you to a parking spot. Walk around and enjoy the Classic's then you can leave at your convenience. Saturday another fun day Downtown. Sunday is Judging IF you enter and it usually closes around noon.

SWT RYD, Go daddy and Jan & I are going, leaving on Thursday Morning September 20th from Murfreesboro around 8 a m. This will be our 10th Festival. If you are interested in going with us or attending we are staying at the Holiday Inn Express - 3050 S. Dirksen Parkway - Springfield, Illinois 62703 (217 585 2871 Darlene or Kevin) Do not use the 800 number !!!

Went to this 2 years ago and TCD (tenneseecozydog) did a fantastic job of organizing everything, really enjoyed the time with new/fellow SSR owners.

Sadly, we moved from IL to FL last year and a 1,400 mile drive to attend is not in the cards for us this year. If you haven't been to this event you'll not be disappointed.

Have a great time TCD and any others that attend. Be Safe!!

Hey Michiganders , Come on down! The line-up for the Friday night Parade and the parade itself are worth the trip , they stage all the cars in a large parking lot across the street from the Holiday Inn starting about 4PM and leave about 6-6:30. The group in the parking lot is a show in itself and includes a variety that the Saturday show does not. SEE YA THERE! :banana :hyper: :blur: :ssr

Maybe us Michigan Fanatics should give this a thought? How about it Harley Guy?

Great idea Scott, drive down on Thursday, we'll meet at the Holiday Inn Express (on Dirksen Parkway) and take in the new Route66Motorhead Restaurant & Museum for dinner or Friday morning for breakfast.

You're right "Replay" it is quite a show its self, all lined up in rows bumper to bumper. They do ask for a 5 dollar donation to benefit Crime Stoppers. When they wave the "Green Rag" you wouldn't believe how fast a 1,000 vehicle exit that shopping center ... of course having Policemen at every intersection really helps keep the traffic flowing.

"GEEZER" Thanks for the compliment !!! :frown2: :frown2: :frown2: but hope you're enjoying your new home. Know you don't miss those cold Illinois winters with the wind blowing across that Prairie State.

One beautiful City Lights Cruise In at the Route 66 Mother Road Festival last night. They said 2,100 hundred vehicles, I know the Capitol City Shoppin' Center staging area was full. 4 SSR's, 3 Redline Red and 1 Aqua Blur ... tennesseecozydog, SWT RYD, CAZ SSR and SSReplay right in the middle of the pack. OH !!! my apologies to DOOPHUS, Auggie Doggie & rogerdoger, some local guy showed up in a Slingshot Yellow. Robert (SWT RYD) & Jim (SSReplay) went over and talked him, I think he said he was not on the web site and was too busy.

Great crowd along the Cruise Route ... maybe 50,000 spectators (30,000 kids "begging for candy and wanting you to do a burnout") Jim told one bunch "Hell if I had any candy, I'd be eatin' it" Talk about a funny couple ... Jim & Lois (SSReplay) now retired after 37 years of running a Sports Bar, Jim is now a certified local "Dr. Phil, Financial Adviser & and just plain "I've heard it all in 37 years"

SWT RYD & Doris are staying today and going downtown to look at the Cars & Trucks but we're headin' back to Tennessee !!! Happy Trails to You !!! tennesseecozydog :ssr
