A Few problems

I have had Big Red out of winter storage foe quite a while and have been on a fair drive with it with no problems but this past Sunday we went on a decent drive 350-400 miles and I noticed it was running warmer than usual. We got home Sunday evening and I parked her. Monday I went out and noticed the coolant reservoir was a bit low so I topped it up. I then hopped in to start it up and make sure the fan was operational. I turned the key and nothing 4-5 times then on the 6th try it started. Hmmmm! I have the A/C button pushed on the dash as it was/is my understanding the fan runs constant with it depressed. It took a while for the fan to come on and it cycled off and on. I ordered an ignition switch just in case as I have heard these are a known problem. I went out today and thought i would try starting it and it started right up no problem. Shut it off and started it a few more times and it started fine.

Any ideas on what the starting issue may be?

Any ideas on it heating up? It didn’t get hot but ran warmer than usual and it wasn’t that hot outside on Sunday. I ran a 3000 mile road trip. Last year in some good heat last year and it ran as usual temp wise.

Thanks Steve

Are you running the OEM fan? If so make the upgrade to the SE version--easy install--When was the last time the coolant was replaced? Thermostat change? Lots of stuff to check before you panic.. Hold on for more info--

Fan operation first. The engine cooling fan only operates below 35 miles per hour so your cruising speeds can effect the temp. Make sure you have good air flow. Not dirt in the condenser.

As for the not starting I would have the battery load tested just to be sure. It could be a dirty switch. Keep us informed on what you find.

Sorry a couple of thing I should have mentioned. It is a fan from Mike. I changed that a couple of years ago.

I have no idea when the coolant was last flushed I’ve only had the SSR for a couple of years.
I should have said when I turned the key the dash lights came on and the gauges cycled then it didn’t click or turn over . After a 6 tries it started. Started fine today 4 or 5 times

I would go to a parts store where they will run a load test on the battery for free--That will eliminate that part of the investigation. I have seen on this site similar issues--and it turned out to be a battery issue--dead cell, corrosion around the terminals, bad ground connections. All fixable---just start eliminated the easy stuff. More people will come on board soon. Most are just getting home from Rallye--

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should take the battery out for a load test
It can be done IN the truck--

Thanks that saves some work!
To add insult to injury when I closed the hood on Monday the hood emblem fell off. Looks like it has been repaired twice already😩. I bought one off of eBay and bought the backer from Mike.
