Well I have decided to buy an SSr. I currently have a 2500HD Diesel 4X4 Crew Cab and love it. 451hp and 817tq! I do not use this truck for anything it was built for except driving back and forth to work in it.

Here are my questions:

What is the ride like in the SSR? I saw a show on speed and they said it was not sporty at all? What is the real world users opinion?

I am looking to get an 04 model.. Is the motor in them the ol LS1?

I know this is a loaded question but what about fuel milage? Ok?

and the last one for now...What has been the weak point if any on this truck?

Thanks for any information and I say Hello to everyone..I hope to soon be in a new one...

I also drive a Duramax Crew for work, and the SSR for the sheer joy.

My wife hated the Vette, and rarely went with me. She loves the SSR. I picked mine up in N Carolina and drove it to the west coast - great drive, great ride.

We took it for a 3 week road trip this fall, and loved every minute. Head room is excellent, I found no problem running 12 hours days in the driver's seat. Mileage is generally reported in the 19 - 20 range.

If you check old posts, a lot of the SSR Fanatics owned Vettes or other hot toys, and are very happy with the performance of the SSR.

It doesn't stick, corner, and accelerate like the Vette, but it's by far the best truck I've ever driven. We drove the twisties between the Napa Valley and the Coastal highway, and it was flat out unbelievable - we plan on going back next year to do it again. My only regret was not having a 6 speed manual.

Engine on the 04 is a 5.3 - plenty of power, and lots of mods available if you want more. 05 is using the new 400 HP - ok - 390 HP Vette engine, and has the 6 speed available.

Hope that helps. Welcome to the SSR site, and hope you get your dream toy - you won't believe the looks and comments it gets you. I've never driven anything that gets this kind of attention.

Boosted,

welcome to the forum ..... i can answer few of your question as i only got mine last week.

What is the ride like in the SSR? my rides great...

saw a show on speed and they said it was not sporty at all? sporty you mean like vette or other sport car? no.. it is not like you feel every bump on road...

Is the motor in them the ol LS1? it is a ls1 based 5.3 with 300hp at fly wheel..i would say it is some where in the mid 250's at the rw..

I know this is a loaded question but what about fuel milage? Ok? first tank i got 18 mpg.

What has been the weak point if any on this truck? in my view just a bit under powered but You can add the a super charger and fix that...

Good luck and go get one.... they are making deals.. :thumbs

Hey, welcome to your new family, I think you will find that even guys who don't have their SSR love us here.
You will love the ride, it is not loose in the corners and turns.
The gas mileage isn't something to write home about. But the fun you have makes it all worth it.
The engine gets up and goes but for some there is never enough power.
There are some other members in Georgia maybe you will be able to hook up!l:)

Owned an extended cab z71 4x4. Had it for the times it snows in St. Louis, which is not much. I figured if I was going to burn gas I might as well do it in style. Got mine the day after Thanksgiving and love it.

I see about 18 mpg.

The only week point I have with mine is the cue ball shifter. Would have been great to have a split shift auto like in the wifes 350z. I love the sound when downshifting.

All in all I like the truck and use it as my daily driver, put on about 300 miles a week.

There are several engine mods out there to bump the HP up, just do a search on the forum and you'll find them.

Boosted,
I bought my 04 red four weeks ago and love it, get ready to smile while your driving it. It doesn't handle like a vette, but not like a truck either, its a hot rod cruiser, nothing quite like it. What part of Ga are you in? :seeya

Boosted,

Now you're in big trouble - you won't be able to wipe the silly grin off your face!!

Stopping for gas or food is going to be a whole lot different.

Thanks guys... I am going to miss the hp and tq of that diesel but that will be fine.

Anyone have a picture of the backend with the hitch installed? I will still need to pull the 5X8 trailer and was wondering what it looked like...

You might miss the towing torque, but the SSR will kick the Duramax's butt for acceleration - well, at least my 03 - don't know how much better the new engine is - haven't tried one yet.

Well I drive my yellow 04 all the time since I got it in June, Parked the Cady as the SSR is a lot easier for me to get in and out, I am a disabled veteran, The ride, It is a truck and for a truck it rides good, I get 21.5 mpg at 68 mph and a good tail wind with mine, But that falls big time with speed, Problems, Had two, One feft me stoped at a red light, Dealer sent a flat bed, The other was yesterday I was runing out of gas so I stoped but you could not put gas in it? The dealer said they do that sometimes? I would not buy a 03 or 04 for any price but that is just me, Wish I had waited a couple more months for the 05, Now will wait for the 06 or 07 but that is just me
