Because you can smell the outside air, it warms up a bit, then cycles back to recirculation. I have an 05 Vette that doesn't do this.

I've noticed that my air seems to warm up slightly for a short time when it's in recirc. It seems to happen when I back off the gas coming down a hill or slowing down. I haven't noticed if it is blowing more air from outside.
I plan on taking it into the dealer for a couple of little fixes. I'll let you know what the results are.
