I've been oggling SSRs since I saw a tiny picture of a model of one at a autoshow in Motor Trend. I've thought and pondered and budgeted and... Now GM has the Employee Pricing and I'm wondering if I should take the plunge. I love convertibles, I love horsepower, I love old styling... this should be the PERFECT thing for me. And mmm... Aqua Blur... mmm...

Alas, I am afraid. I drive a 100% trouble free Subaru WRX wagon ATM. I'm am concerned that I'll have continual trouble with the SSR which will make me regret getting it. I don't have a lot of patience for issues with my purchases - especially $40,000+ purchases. So my question is this...

... is there anyone out there that hasn't had any issues with their SSR?

I realize forums are where problems are vetted and I should read into this too much, but I keep checking the page and seeing new problems. Please provide what soothing words are appropriate!

Take the plunge! I have owned my '04 Redline Red SSR since October of last year, have almost 12,000 miles on her, and the only problem I have had so far,(Knock on wood) is a roofing nail I picked up in Florida last November, and all the oooohs and aaaahs I get when I drive it, and it is my daily driver! Besides, the few issues you "might" have are way out weighed by the sheer pleasur :thumbs e you get from owning and driving such an elegant beast!

Based on the poll I started about probs. with the SSR, it appears I have the most probs. of all but notice that very few have actually had roof probs. and tranny probs. That is a good thing. Even with all the probs. that were fixed, I would not switch for a minute. Now is the time. Buy the truck before the GM offer ends. If I had the cash, I would get a second one in a heartbeat. You have no idea how much fun you are missing right now and the weather is perfect for drop tops too! Get thee to your local Chevy dealer man! :seeya

I've had my 05 since Thanksgiving. No problems at all. With that said I've only got 1000 miles on her but what a great 1000 it's been. Aqua Blur like you've hinted is a GREAT color, people comment on it all the time!! Go for it!!! :ssr :cool

I have an '04 Redline #113853 built on 8/25/2004. I have had no issues at all. I totally love it. I use it as a mobile billboard and put it in about any event I come across. It will be in a 4th of July parade. It is getting too warm in Houston to ride around with the top down, but every time I get in it, it is pure pleasure to drive.

what you say is true

you may have troubles with an ssR, but its worth it :cool
I used to work at a subaru dealership the mecanics complained about the "hunkajunks" all the time, then they'd buy one anyway. :confused
all new models have 'bugs' to be worked out at the begining of the run (lexus, bmw, mercedes, whoever) the ssR is a low production so it may have taken a little longer.
a customer of mine has a Enzo ($650k?) he drives it alot which is very unusual (probably the highest mileage one on earth), already done the breakes ($40k) the clutch ($25k I think) which means draining the engine oil, the dealer found "metal shavings" and sent the V12 back to Italy (4 months).
another customer chose an STI over a A4 purely for fun even though he was worried about subaru reliability and had good luck with audi in the past.
subarus are good cars, so are chevs, you'd enjoy the ssR :flag

[Edit]PS I liked your photo so much I added some more green in the background and tweeked the color and added a few differnt kind of crops... that photo can be a great shot for our "body parts" contest! Hope you don't mind Mike... ;)

BUY IT, I have an 04 and I would not trade it for anything ! ! ! I've had just about anything you can think of from Corvettes to Jaguars and this SSR is the neatest rig that I have ever owned. Even if you have some minor issues they usually can be resolved with a little patience. :thumbs :ssr

Do Not Hesitate

In all I currently own over 30 vehicles. They range from exotics to the american muscle and most of them have had their issues. The only problem that I had had with my SSR is the fact that it draws more attention than anything else in the stable and it costs one heck of a lot less than most of them.

This is one purchase that you will never regret even though it is another depreciating asset :)

You say that you love convertibles, horsepower and old styling but you drive a Japanese wagon. Do you REALLY love convertibles, horsepower and old styling? Have you seen how Subaru did in the latest J D Power survey and how the GM vehicles did for quality? Do you SEE any old Subaru's where you live? Do you see any older Chevies where you live? This country has been pretty good to all of us. Some of us return the favor. If you do not get what you say you want now, when will you? Read this forum and you will see genuine joy expressed by these owners of American performance droptops. There is no way your wagon gives you that. Transportation is just not the same as what the SSR gives these owners.

Go For It!!

I have had my SSR for nearly four months. Not a single problem. I had long been wanting a retro-styled convertible of some kind and had myself convinced to finally get a Prowler--until I actualy had a chance to test drive one at an exotic car rental. I then checked out the SSR and took a test drive. I was sold within 100 feet off the lot!

This is the most fun I have EVER had with a vehicle!!! It's styling is timeless, it has a real personality, and it is incredibly fun to drive. I look forward to going to work in the morning just to have another chance to jump in drive! The first 3-4 weeks I owned my SSR, I did not even turn on the Bose stereo system, instead preferring to listen to the throaty rumble of the LS2!

It is a vehicle that begs for personalization. The stock version by itself is fantastic, but it is a blast planning new mods--custom paint, performance mods (check out Jim G's pearls), you name it. It is the kind of vehicle that makes you smile just looking out your window and seeing it sitting in your driveway.

This was my first Amercian car in nearly 20 years and my very first Chevrolet. I am now completely a Chevy guy as my wife could tell you with all the Bow Tie logos appearing around the house and in the garage. I am even considering adding a C6 to our fleet by the end of the year.

There is a lot of things I could say about owning an SSR, but I think this sums it up best: THIS IS THE FIRST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER BOUGHT OR OWNED WITH NO INTENTION OF EVER SELLING OR TRADING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE! :thumbs This one is staying in the family--ALWAYS. My advice-get one NOW!!!

I purchased my 05 Aqua Blurr about a month ago and have 1000 miles on it now and have had no problems. I too was hesitant about buying an SSR because of all the problems but hoped with a newer model they would be few and so far none. Even my woman who though it was a goofy looking thing is now happy I got it.

one year old

My SSR is one year old this month, I watched it come in at the dealership, got in after the driver backed it off the truck (it was on the front top of the truck which made a great looking arrival) and drove it home and cleaned it up myself, and the dealer hasn't seen it sence. An absolutely fun truck to drive. My daily driver is a 2500HD Duramax so if I do have any funny noises or "tinks" I probably wouldnt pay any attention to them. :ssr :)

Make That Move

I have owned my 04 since Sep. I enjoy driving this vehicle more than any I have owned over the years. I not only drive around with a big smile on my face but practically eveyone that sees it also has a big smile on their faces as well. People really love this truck. Some will come right out and say it and others just simply stare and grin showing their approval. Time is wasting. Get yours today. You will not regret it. :ssr
