Just used my airconditioner for the first time! I've got a strange metalic noise coming from inside the dash, anyone else experience this?
I've been lucky and haven't had a problem other than the mystery "tink" that everyone else has. So I guess I was due!
Had an old timer ask me today "what kinda car it was?" Told him it was a remake of the '49 Chevy, he say's "Yea, I guess your right!"
Another guy at the gas station said he learned to drive on a '51 Chevy truck, and it brought back memories! Kinda nice!

I have the same problem, I think... sounds like a low pitch flutter noise coming from the passenger side... is there when you accellerate. The dealer has heard it too and they are replacing the AC unit tomorrow... I'll let you know if this fixes it.

I have the same noise and it's driving me crazy. It started as a fluttering noise when accelerated but now it has turned into a small helicopter noise when the AC is on. waiting for cold weather so I can take it in for a week to fix a bunch of stuff.

Re: AC Noise

I also had the AC blower noise problem. Henna Chevy in Austin attempted to fix it this past weekend according the solution recommended in the technical service bulletin by replacing the control head on the AC blower. It actually made the noise problem worse and screwed up the outside air exchange (I now have a constant stream of hot outside air mixed with the cooler air conditioned flow). However, the worse part is that they were unable to get the dash back on properly rendering my coin tray and cup holder inoperable (they now stick). My advise is to not mess with it and live with the slight noise unless you have access to really skilled SSR mechanic.

My A/C takes about 30 minutes to barely cool the cab and will NEVER blow your hair even on high/face. Once the dealership gets under your dash and TRY to put it back, things are never the same again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine is in the shop today for the exact same problem!

So there are previous threads mentioning 'noise' mostly on fan setting 2. I took it in to get fixed last month because I was approaching 36k miles and the original warranty would be up. After the dealer fixed it the first time, there was a constant whistling any any fan speed. The dealer opened it up and filed down some plastic piece and the noise stopped. But I did notice that air constantly blows in now even with the fan off...the faster I go the more air that blows. So that's what they are trying to fix today.

SSR-Club: As for there being LITTLE or NO air coming out of your vents, I had this problem too after the dash was taken off for my stero install. The tubes that deliver the air to the vents on the dashboard just push up against the dash, they are not 'connected'. So unless it is put together correctly, the air will be just blowing into the back of the dash instead of out of the vents....I now check all 4 vents every time the dash board has been taken apart.

The other thing I noticed this weekend is that my large drink holder clip on the passenger side is starting to split. I know this is due to placing 20 oz. drinks constantly, as I travel a lot and require caffiene to keep me awake on my drives.
I asked the dealer if he might be able to just glue it, but I doubt that will work.

Dash Problems!

I had no idea that this was an ongoing problem! Even the cooling problem!
This is a great way to find out what's going on! I love this forum!
Thanks to everyone and good luck!
I think I'll live with the little noise a while and see if it will get "cooler" as summer progresses!

You should check around under the dash. The center dash vents are fed by ducts that have a slip fit joint in the middle of the run. They can slip apart if the reassembly isn't done right. Net result, plenty of cooling under the dash, not much out of the vents.

fan motor flutter

I had an 03 ssr that had the flutter, like you said worse on speed 2, dealer changed the fan motor, which had back and forth slack. I sold the 03 SSR and bought an 04, same color yellow. The 04 has the same flutter, I think I will just live with the flutter. I love my SSR and think I will always have one, can't think of anything better.

Just took delivery of mine on tuesday. The noise I heard was coming from the right driver's vent and when I would touch it (little pressure), it would stop. Dealer replacing the vent Friday.

Update on the AC noise... dealer replaced the AC compressor and the noise is greatly diminished... still hear it a bit but only when going slow (less than 25 MPH)... it stops when the AD cycles off, so I know it's not internal to the fan motor... guess that is just the nature of the beast.. will just turn the CD player volume up and don't drive slower than 25 PMH... should be no problem

Crazy Crappy Noise

Okay everyone!
Here is the deal....... I finally found out what the hell that noise is.
It is the blower exchange box expanding and contracting. Champion, Capitol and GM worked on it for two weeks straight. All you need to do is insulate the the damn squirrel cage box and it is resolved. Stupid Crap.
Apparently the box is too damn thin and it flexes when you crank on the blower or accelerate.

I have had mine fixed for a solid week so far. No noise what so ever.

Hope this helps. :seeya

Take a search for my posts on how to fix the coin tray & cupholder

SSR03, thanks for the info... sounds so simple... I've still got the flutter noise but is better than it was... don't know if the new AC unit was part of the problem, or if they did something else when checking it out. I'll show this to my service guys. Since they changed the AC unit out, it does get cooler faster and stays cooler... actually had to have the expansion valve changed before as it was not cooling at all for a while... only took 3 days to get the part in house.
