Big Discounts ? ? ?

I was at my Chev. dealer yesterday and we were talking about all of these SSRs that sticker for $47,000 selling for $29,000 and he said that he doesn't know how it is possible as GM is not kicking back that much money, not even close.
INTERESTING ? ? ? ? ? ? :confused

discounts

You are talking about the few remaining 2004's, right? They were under 30 here, too, but almost all are gone. I wanted to lease one but the dealers said GM would not allow 2004's to be leased.
that is untrue you can lease them with gmac however it is not advantagous i recommend a 60 month purchase payment is cheaper than a 36 mo lease

So, when there were discounts of $12,000, I thought that was terrific.
Are we now saying that a $16,000 discount is what dealers may be offering now?
I wonder if any dealer would entertain that sort of pricing.
:lurk
It's not a matter of what a dealer is willing to "entertain".

1. An 04 is now a 1 1/2 year old used car is the way a smart buyer would look at it, with its only advantage being it has zero miles on it. Once that zero miles becomes even 500 miles, (i.e. after you have driven it a week or 2), it's just a 1 1/2 year old used car with lower than average miles.

2. An 04 is 90hp down on the 05, and that 90hp makes ALL the difference in performance. To replicate that horsepower aftermarket will take a supercharger at $6200 to $8500 (depending on how good a deal you get on THAT). So, beyond the 1 1/2 years old used car mentality, you also have to subtract another $6200 to $8500 to get closer to a meaningful comparison.

Taking both points into account, under $30k is apparently what the market will pay, regradless of the dealers' desires.

That is not bad at all. I only bought my 04 SSR barnd new 2 1/2 months ago precisely because I COULD (and did) get such a deal. I was definitely not in the market for another $45k vehicle. Been there and done that, and the cost per mile at $45k is just more than it's worth to me. One of my recent cars was a Z06, so I speak with qualified experience.

By the way, it's NOT just SSRs that are subject to this.

Ask your buddies who recently bought Corvettes, Chevy SUVs, or ANY big ticket American vehicle that is not currently exceptionally "hot". Big discounts are the NORM for MANY cars and trucks right now. It's a soft market, and GM specifically is in trouble. Great time to buy.

Thanks so much for your input.
I'm in the same situation as you were.
I had no intention to get into another $45,000 purchase.
My '04 Corvette satisfied that.

But when I see that possibly a GREAT deal can be acheived on the SSR,
I'm tempted to pick up one of these outstanding machines. To me, it's a vehicle which will never go out of style. It will always be a classic.

I'm really on the fence with this decision, and I know my time for selection on an '04 is getting very short.

This is a great Forum. Thanks again. :thumbs

I see '04 SSR's on the lots all over in WI. The dealers were being soooooo greedy and screwing the buyers with inflated prices that they just chased them away to buy something else( I did- I bought a boat instead-no money left for the GM dealer now- too bad for them). I snicker at those dealers now when I drive by. Bad thing is- it shows up on GM's sales charts and they kill the vehicle thinking it was the design that hurt sales when it was actually the dealers. Some times people can be their own worst enemy.
i just bought a new 04 MSRP 46875 for 29140, and he had 1 yellow o4 left. if i was u, id do it now b4 the remaining 04s get scooped up.
JSUT AS THE 2002 S-10S WERE YOU CAN BUY AND GET A GREAT DEAL NOW AS THE NEW ONES REMAIN WHEN THEY ARE GONE THE PRICE WILL REBOUND SUPPLY AND DEMAND ....
