I got a call from a Lansing Plant Employee last week, to find out how I liked my new SSR. In the course of conversation about two intermittant electrical problems I've had, that the dealer couldn't diagnose or repair, he asked if one of their electrical engineers could contact me. George and Mark both phoned me on Friday, after having talked to my dealer, and mentioned another feature on the SSR that I knew nothing about. BUMP START keeps the starter engaged for two to three seconds if you immediatly/accidentally release the key after turning it to start. They explained this can sometimes confuse the computer. I think it's great customer service on the part of GM to be contacting owners, and I especially appreciate the extra concern "George" has shown, even though they are not supposed to do troubleshoot and repair over the phone, by contacting my dealer with possible solutions to my problem. Thanks, GM employees!

SSR Computer - Very Protective

Funny story about computer issues.....

We had too many vehicles in our shop, wanted to move the SSR, "just a bit" when GM was visiting...........

Key in ignition, in neutral, pushed her back just a bit, for a good angle so they could do photos......... no big deal right?

Key would NOT come out afterwards.......stuck!!! No turning, no nothing!! Couldn't start it. No power!!
Some kind of theft safety feature!! Very cool!!! Dealers couldn't tell us or GM reps how to fix..........secret is in the computer :yesnod

We finally spoke to a GM person at headquarters (thank goodness the team was with us to have that access) and found out how to rectify the "theft" issue.

For the security of everyones SSR's, I wont' post the "fix", but if ya ever needed to know, you can pm me.

Just be sure to NEVER , roll yer SSR a bit without it running! :willy:
Was pretty funny with all the Execs standing around, and keys in the ignition, and no one knew what to do next!! :lol :lol

share the load

Ever time you share that info with a member, ask if that member will allow you to post thier name. After 4 or 5 names are posted that have that info it should spread the load of request more evenly.

OK, I'll step up....

Axiom PM'd me the answer to the "lock out" condition that existed after the "bumping" occurred. I have msg space for about 40 PM's.

If someone else can step up after I forward the info to them, we can share the wealth...and the burden.

Thanxx....P/P

Peace :flag

Sounds like a dumb feature

If a thief already has my key, what purpose does this security feature serve? If the thief has the key, what chance is it that he will try to push the car in neutral instead of just driving off?

Or for that matter just coming with a tow truck and grabbing it LOL.

A good point. This might sound like sacrilege but I have in mind towing my SSR behind a motorhome. Has anyone tried this or had other experience towing one without a trailer?
No experience, but few vehicles with automatic transmissions are recommended for direct towing.

Pulling SSR

The easiest way to pull a SSR is to use Remco Transmission Splitter ,You pull a cable and it will be in Neutral no miles on car . :)

Dead Battery Woes...

SSR is at another location; we hadn't started it in two weeks. Open door and noticed (sorta) no buzzer, put key in ignition and tried to start. Nothing, no clicks, no nuthing. Tried to take key out and - whoops....can't get it out. Check book-nothing about this sort of problem, of course it's a Saturday almost 4:00pm. Call dealership (250 miles away); need to get Roadside Assist to come jump and tow to nearest dealer. First guy-no room on the truck, second guy doesn't have jump cables long enough-dealership closing at 5:30-hour away. Finally get cables hooked to shorter ones for long enough jump to take out of park-what a mess. Towed to dealership, won't even find out what problem is till mid-week...wow, only 500 miles and this happens!

Original dealership says new 'vettes have same problem if not started every 10-14 days. Nobody said anything about this being a problem, it's not like SSR is an everyday driver and is started everyday.

Anyone else have this problem?
