Any experienced views out there - I want to buy an SSR! Neither the larger engine or the manual tranny matter to me. I can get an 04 for around 30k. (I also have 3500$ from the old fashioned GM Gold card which works with the deal). Would it be wise to wait until more incentives get thrown on by GM? I can NOT believe that GM has let this build up get this out of hand. If they extended rebates and incentives on the '04's they could move them quickly and have a chance of keeping the '05 price up. Are they just NEVER going to do a rebate on this vehicle? A quick check on gmbuypower shows over 50 '04 ssr's in showrooms within 50 miles of me (Detroit).

Also, anyone heard of a new program called GM in the Driveway? Supposed to be a type of employee by program that allows non-employees to get the employee price, and also you can stack GM Rebate dollars on.

This is a great site!

Just like you patrol, I have been waiting until GM throws some incentives or something before I buy an SSR. In the news today the main man at GM reported lower earnings to the stock people and the stock dropped to a new low. I sold my stock a couple of months ago as I saw then that GM was headed in the wrong direction. Look at the problems with the SSR's on this site alone. Don't get me wrong I still want one but I think that those problems and the price are what is keeping people from buying them. Someone else on this site said that even if GM lowered the price to $35K they still would not sell. I disagree, if GM lowered the price to $35K I for one would buy one instantly. Out here in California where it is a lot sunnier than Detroit there are at least 50 on the lots close to me as well. Oops that is 05's. I think they have 50 of the 04's but a much broader area. I called a lot of the dealers even the ones 80+ miles away from me to see about an 04 and they would only budge down to about mid 30's or so. Not enough to entice me to get one. I am looking to get an Aqua Blur with an automatic and the best deal is on e-bay for a used one at $37,100. I was waiting for GM to do something as far as rebates and incentives went for about 2 months or so and finally got tired of waiting and went out and got a Nissan Frontier as my daily driver to work. An example of what they said on the news tonight, GM is losing sales to Toyota, Nissan and Honda. I looked at the Colorado but liked the Nissan better. More power, little places to put stuff, better looking and with a bed liner already in it with tie downs. I also have an old fashioned GM Gold card and am saving my money for the next Z06. And yes this is a great site!

I just checked and out to about 100 miles away from me here in Southern California there are 27 2004 SSR's still on dealer lots. In fact I requested a quote on an Ultraviolet just for fun as I know they will never offer up a good price IMO. I have seen quite a few 04's from other areas of the country on e-bay going for under $30K. In fact I have bid on many and they usually do not meet the reserve price. I have also bid on and won many 05's even the same one 5, yes 5 times but the reserve is never met so the sale does not happen. Gee what is that telling anybody?

Same boat

Hi RS-
Funny I am looking at the Colorado too, in case I decide not to budge up to the ssr. I think I would feel bad for years if I did that. I think resale is about the same between the 2. I cant look at Nissan because I might get mad about having 3500 in the gm card scam. Around here the dealers who want to move the ssr's are doin in at 30995 plus dest. (thats at 46k car). I suppose as the msrp goes down the price would an equal amount.

I did 4 quotes, I'll let you know how they come out.

Hey guys....

The only thing you lack is committment. Have you test driven one?? I suspect not, as if you have you wouldn't be talking about a Colorado.
Price jousting is something I don't get. When you got the bottom price, there is no more to it. Do you think your not getting your moneys worth? You can wish for less, but if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride. The difference between $35K and what you want to pay is less than going out to dinner with your SO (Significent Other) one night a month.

You guys are missing out on something special...especially with that year-round sunny California weather.

Guys, Guys, Guys....

I owned a Colorado LS crew cab, that I traded in on a 2004 SSR. There is no comparison. The Colorado was a good truck, for what I needed. But it is no SSR. That is like going from a Cavalier to a Corvette. Quit hedging, the rebates and incentives are not going to get any better, (I work at a Chevrolet dealership), and if you keep waiting, you will turn around and all of the 04's will be gone.

I am feeling bad for not getting an SSR now. My GM money is being saved for the Z06. After getting the Frontier now I have to wait for GM to do better with the SSR or I will not get one. The SSR would be another vehicle adding to the Z06 the Nissan and the Ram SRT-10. Not enough room in the garage for all of them.

I have driven an 05 automatic and the 6 speed both twice. I guess maybe I do not feel that I am getting my moneys worth. The diffeence between $35k and what I want to pay is about 8-10 thousand dollars. A little more than dinner. And yes right now I am missing out but there is just something and I cannot explain it that will not let me get one yet.

Expensive dinners

RS- I have the same gut feeling you do. Purple penelope is right in one respect, I know I would love the car. Yes I have test driven it. I guess the business side of me is saying WAIT, even though I am dying to have one. 5k would be an expensive dinner. The dealers who haven't auctioned these yet are not budging- which I can totally understand - I own 2 companies and we sit on a lot of inventory too. The one's who have bought at auction seem to be willing to sell around 30. Purple seems to be a more readily "available" color at the lower end. Silver seems in short supply. I haven't even decided on a color.

Good luck finding a deal.

Dood, just do it. I can't believe you or I will get the chance to own a brand new $48,000 vehicle for around $30,000 any time soon. And if GM should stop building them in the next few years, you'll have a very limited production vehicle that will hold it's value and probably increase in value over time.

I just got mine from a dealer 9 hours away, and I'm so glad I did it.

Buy now !

I bought an 05 six speed and only got the $1500.00 GM rebate. I have driven nothing like it ! Also have a 2004 Coup Vette and can"t leave the SSR alone.
It comes down to how much you want one. Drove the 04 SSR automatic then the 05 sixspeed. Drove the 05 home two hours later, It was more cost but alot more fun ! I say go for it !

I Would Like To Save. But!

I Read A Lot Of How Everyone Is Looking For That Great Deal.
But Not Too Much Of How They Found That Great Deal On The
Car Of Their Choice. I Mean The Car Is The Color And Has The
Options They Want And Don't Want.
For Me , If I'm Going To Buy A Vehicle Like This , Its Going To
Be Exactly What I Want. I Will Not Pay Any More Than I Think
I Have To Pay , To Get What I Want.
I Am Far From Rich, And Work Hard For My Money.
Whenever You Buy A Vehicle Like This, The Last Thing You
Should Do Is Compromise Because You Got A Great Deal.

I Bought A 05 Ssr And Paid What I Had To Pay. I Am Not The
Least Bit Jealous Toward The Guy That Says He Got A Brand
New 04 Ssr For $30,000.
