Shifter Console tunnel carpet

Have had the SSR since 1/1/05 and just today noted that the carpet is pulled away from the shifter console on the passenger side. It is thick and moulded and does not want to go back under the lip of the console. Anyone have this problem? :mad

Mine has not openly dislodged, but I noted that it feels "hollow" under the carpet when I slide the new "horizontal mount" cupholder into the horizontal mount tabs.

The "clearance" between the cupholder and the carpet is VERY tight. That's how I noticed the fact that the carpet easily "deflects" downward as you push the cupholder in. The contact of the carpet to the console at this point is pretty non-existent. I suspect that all that holds the carpet edge down is physical clamping via the console panel.

Carpet Gap Too

My '03 has a gap on the drivers side. Didn't notice it 'til the dealer installed my gauges. Maybe it was there before. Anyhow, it will be looked at next time its in the dealer's shop.

same problem - both sides

I have not been able to find a more current thread on this topic.
I recently bought a 2005 Aqua Blur. Like many I bought it sight unseen.
On the drive home I noticed that the carpet has pulled away from the console on both sides. Any others having this issue? Any known fixes?

Yep..I’ve had this same problem since I took my car to have it detailed the same week that I got it...
my 05 has given me grief in that carpet area and still does
but I think I’ve finally figured out the console area problem. .. not sure yet until I attempt to rectify other sources of leaks
when I recently found 05 carpet at Cleveland PAP...and it arrived I noticed that the padding that came with it was a WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT THAN THE ORIGINAL RUG THAT I PULLED OUT..
Ive had issues with heat coming inaround my console in the summer...
there are distinct shapes of padding that match the configuration of the gap around the floor guages
as well as the console itself.. and the carpet that I’m fix in’ to install (as soon as I get this leak solved)
seems to fit just right with the extra padding fitted in those gaps...
thanks to everybody that has helped me with my mess.. by discussing that leak thing with me...
if I can figure out how to post pictures of these additional pieces to maybe help someone see what their problem might be....
I originally accused the detail shop of not putting all of my padding back after they did the carpet and seats...because they had removed it during the process...because it seemed as though there wasn’t enough thickness of padding to raise it high enough to reach to be tucked in and secured.... sometime I think that if there has ever been a reason for the console or the gauges to be disturbed there’s a good chance that somebody lost or just overlooked inserting the extra pieces

I had same problem with carpet. Last time I had the seats out I decided to try something. Since I had figured the reason for the carpet coming out from under the console was my size 14s pushing the carpet forward.
While the seats were out I pulled the carpet back and tucked it all in. I then took a couple self tapping screws with fender washers on them and screwed the carpet to the tunnel area where the seats would cover the screws. Carpet has not moved since and no more coming out from under the console.

Finally a reply to an ancient thread that is relevant today. Possibly the difference in actually searching for a problem in the Search Community rather than just blindly responding in the often far out of date Recommended Reading below each thread. This is how it should work @Administrator , and yes my carpet does not reach the console on either side but you have to look for the flaw so I am not too concerned.

I have talked to @Mike in AZ about this same issue on the passenger side in an 05'. Mike told me that when they made changes to the tunnel under the console to make the additional room for the 6 speed transmission, it appears that perhaps they never changed the size of the carpet which causes it to be a bit too short to remain in place. So I am also looking for a good long term repair.

My advice, bury your right foot or engage in lively conversation and the passenger will never know.
