Just took delivery and found the optional cupholder and attached to console on horizontal clip, but does anyone know what the verticle clip is for on the driver's side of the console???
My dealer does not have a clue. He didn't even know what the horizontal on was for...AAARRRGGGHHHHH!

GM redesigned the cupholder mount on the passenger side to keep it from getting broke when the seat is moved forward, and it seems they only send one cupholder and they are not interchangable as they were before.

verticle

What would be great for the verticle clip is to have a cell phone holder that would fit into the clip.
Anybody out there working on that???

Thank you but "yuck".
FYI for everyone on this topic. I have had some correspondence with Panavise that make Vehicle OEM style holders for cell phones, I have used one in every car for at least 10 years.
Their tech guy told me that he was investigating the SSR and would be working at the dealer next month to try and determine if a model could be designed.

I'll update everyone as I find out.

Ampmop....I bought a cell phone belt holder at WalMart for about 4.95 that fits right into the cup holder on either side if it is the verticle holder! Works Great!

Cup holders, my favorite subject

The passenger side panel had (has) a slightly sheared cupholder bracket for the second time. Asked the dealer about it, yep, we'll order a new one. That was four weeks ago. When I went in the part ordered was a cup holder for the dash. All apolgetic, that's OK.
Last week they call so I'm in there for the fix this past Monday. After 1 1/2 hours they come to me with the side panel in tow stating the panel was made incorrectly because the bracket was horizontally mounted. Had to laugh out loud because no one knew the panel was for an '05 when I told them. You want to see a service mgr cringe in his tracks, this was it.
All apologetic (again) they gave me a free oil change coupon for my time. I told them when I come back next time, I'm gonna expect to be put on the payroll.

I had the tray changed out to a cup holder when the dealer changed the oil. They did not charge me anything. It works great. Enteresting note the cup holder is made in Germany for Audi and Volkswagon. Oh yea the cost is a whopping 75 bucks. ouch. but worth it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to swap the storage tray with the dash mounted cup holder?

Thanks,
There is another thread on this too.

There is a special tool to remove the tray/holder or you could try and use 1-4 small screw drivers. I could not get the tray to come out and had mine switched by wingrider at the Homecoming :seeya

changed mine too

But, didn't like the change. First time the coffee cup was there I spilled coffee all over myself (ha,ha) just turning the wheel leaving the house. Also can't get to the key with the cup there. Just me, though.

Had the dealer switch them back last week. Charged me $19 to do it. Go figure.

When I picked up my '05, the console mounted cup holder was off. Mine was just glued on. However I tried placing the cup holder on the driver's side but the mount went side ways. So they ordered me a new one. That one came in with the mount vertical but they didn't include the mount for the console. However this cup holder fits perfectly on the driver's side. Now they are ordering me a whole right panel of the console. The other SSR's an '04 and '05 in the showroom had the mount part of the panel as apposed to glued on like mine was. I guess that's quality control. But you got to love it!!!

Does anyone know

what 2-sided tape GM uses to hold the brackets to the center console? I had a panic stop the other day and my dog tried to brace himself on the passenger side one and it popped off. I hate to try anything from Pep Boys thinking with my luck it would fall off again with a large drink in it. :confused

My tray is on the left side cup-holder on the right. It came that way, but to be honest, I would prefer two trays instead of the cup holder. I dont feel comfortable with the idea of having a drink that high. At least if I spill on the lower one it only hits the carpet.

Well my dealer didn't use 2 sided tape, they used some goo which obviously did not hold. I'm still waiting for them to replace the eniter panel and fix it the right way.
You can probaly use some contact cement then put a couple of little screws to hoid it.
