Hey, Guys

The gauges are available from gmpartsdirect.com

Part # 10387279 for 03 and 04, $260.40 plus 7.95 shipping, no tax if outside of North Carolina.

Have not checking into a part number or pricing on gauges for the 05.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago, installed easily (except for cutting and shredding the carpet underpad), and work just fine. (The GMH gauge is a bit lame, but looks good.

I had hoped to remove the center GPH gauge and replace it with the gauge for my Dakota Digital tire pressure sensing system, but it's all on one printed circuit board.

C'mon, Z - go grab that 03 before someone else grabs it.!!!! 750 miles and yellow. I flew to North Carolina, and came back with mine without ever having driven an SSR. You've been in one, you like it, you like yellow - what's to ponder???

It's almost tempting to go grab it to resell up here, except for two problems.

1 - My wife would kll me - don't need 2 yellow SSRs

2 - GM Canada will block warranty on anything with less than 7500 miles

Note on the gauges: the 03/04 will not work on an 05, and the 05 will not work on the 03/04 SSRs

Go Ultra

Z16Z06,
I was also torn between the yellow and the ultra violet, but that changed when I saw them in person. The yellow looked fun and trendy, but the purple metallic looked more classy and hot-roddy. Since we have a custom Harley bike shop, I'm used to seeing lots of eye-catching paint jobs, and IMHO, the Ultra has much more potential to create a custom and classy look.

I had the choice of an 04 Yellow brand new, $38K out the door, or the 04 Ultra used for $30K out the door. The yellow didn't have the 1sb package or the running boards, and the ultra had all that, but 9500 miles on it. I liked the bright yellow fun color and was looking for it initially, but seeing them side by side and the price difference made the Ultra the best choice. Plus, I didn't have the instant depreciation of buying a brand new car. I'm also not a fan of buying the first model year of a new car - there are always glitches or improvements, so I wouldn't consider the 03s, but the SSRs seem to have a higher standard of quality overall because of it's special production status. I kind of wish I could have the 05 with the bigger engine, but the Ultra was only made in 2004, and I like that color....besides, there's other ways to get more HP. I'll be looking at different threads here to find out about all that!

Anyhoo, try to see the Ultra in person, if not that one, then one close to home first. You got to get what grabs you - everyone has different tastes and this is going to be your baby. Whenever our customers or friends get a Harley, the first thing they do is figure out how to make it theirs and make it unique.

Just my opinion. But, I'm really attached to mine - I intend to keep it and enjoy it for a long time! :)

Keep in mind that 03s would have been 04s in any other product line. The first builds were in October 03.

Chev intentionally did a limited run of 03s prior to running 04s to create a collector value to them. I think the earliest numbers have the greatest collector potential.

Just think - If I wait till I'm 118 years old, I should be able to take mine to Barrett Jackson and recover most of my original purchase price. :lol :lol

I also like purple, and if it had been around for 05 with a 6 speed, I might have been in trouble.

I have a photo on my wall of a custom truck that was in Trucking magazine in June 2000 - that purple/orange has always been my ultimate dream color combination - then KWhopper goes and posts photos of the Best of Show winner, and BAM - brings back all those repressed memories I'm trying not to act on. Cheeeez!!!!

Vehicle for Z16Z06

Quote - "$31,988.00 plus TTL.. gosh i wish it was a different color.. i will go drive it today tho and see how the 04 feels".
Z16Z06,
I see where Reliable Chevrolet is posting an 04' Violet SSR on EBay. Starting bid is 29,995.00. Buy it now is 31,995.00. Vehicle is new so this allows you keep your interest rate where you want it, it is the color you want, and based on your above quote you are willing to spend 31,998.00 on the SSR above if it was a different color, you give the impression you would buy it.

What is the problem with this deal at Reliable?

the purple one i just listed on ebay is new on mso was reported sold to general motors 5 days ago so is not eligible for any rebates but the bottom line price 29995 is a steal or the buy it now price is still a great buy in comparsion to 98 percent of vehicles on the market right now

Z16Z06,
You indicate you have never driven an 04' and all the DFW dealers have sold theirs. Why don't you go drive the 04' at Chuck Fairbanks to see if 300hp is acceptable.
Islanddreams just posted some new inventory, even the purple color you indicated you wanted in an earlier post. Seems to me if you have financing lined up you could be in an SSR, what are you waiting for?

Thanks Calcustom for telling me about the SSR at Chuck Fairbanks Chevrolet... wish i could take a black one , but i just dont want to buy a black vehicle again. Thought about my painter buddy putting a two tone paint job on it, but i really would like yellow, ultra violet, redline.....

Very nice Sales Manager over there named Bryan Raines... he was down to earth and didnt try to push me into their vehicle. ANYONE interested in a remaining NEW 04 Smokin Asphalt SSR write me a pm for pricing offered to me here in the DFW area.

At least i will give you the price offered to me.

Thanks Tony

Franchise

Even thou I work for GM, a lot of us at work complain about the treatment we get at some dealerships! At a cross section meeting we had last year with upper management from Detroit, this subject was brought up. We were told that their dealerships were set up like Franchises. They stated that if you do not like the service you get at one particular dealership then find one that will treat you like you want to be treated! I diden't really like their answer, but that's what was stated to us employee's. :cuss

Hey Scott,

I agree with you... that is pretty much the same story I have heard here too. If the dealer gets enough bad responses he could lose his franchise. That happened to one dealer here in WNY a little while ago he is no longer in GM Car business anymore.

GM rates dealers with their Feedback Surveys... that is just one weapon to make the dealer wake up if not he or she could go out of business too! :nono

Correct me if I am wrong but if you go into a Chevy dealer and get treated bad and walk out and do not by a car GM is not going to send you a survey to find out right? How will GM even know you were there?

Thanks William but i have my financing set up as ive said in early posts.. my bank was cheaper than GMAC could do.... and im getting 5.25%. So its not financing, its deciding where to buy. I wanted closer to me since i blew alot of off time (vacation) a few weeks ago when i started shopping and thinking i was going to get good interest rates.. i called your dealership FIRST at that time... Now it would be nice to find one in my territory. I spoke to a dealership here about buying one out of state OR even out of Houston,TX (only 250 miles away) and in Houston there are plenty of 04 SSR's sitting around at dealerhips.. (4) new 04's sitting at one dealership.. they wont budge on pricing... But William with me paying 30grand my local dealerhips arent interested in buying one out of state or in state because they cant make any money off the deal buying it from you or whomever and selling it to me for 30grand. I am trying to work a deal on an 03 from this board, but im waiting on current pictures of the SSR... also this 03 could be sold locally because the seller says they have two serious buyers... wont know until the weekend or Monday.

SO IM STILL LOOKING... Who knows who will sell me an 03/04/05 SSR soon!

Z16Z06, There's an old Southern saying that certainly seems to apply to you and your buying a SSR. "Piss or get off the pot"! Buy one and then post how you wish you would have bought one sooner.

Okay on this your correct, BUT there's another way.. I have been contacted by GM with GREAT concern on my two complaints on dealerships out of Houston,Tx....... yes GM says what you guys are saying dealerships are individually owned, BUT they do have methods of putting some hurt on bad dealerships and GM wanted complete details, emails, ( remember i have it in writing in emails from dealerships) but you name it GM wanted it about my problems about trying to purchase an SSR and i had proof of the changed pricing, equiptment being changed or taken off the SSR ( can you say pictures of before and after). GM is going to get back with me and i really cant say what they can do.

I just say if you have a problem.. contact GM as i did.. the dealership in question may want to rethink what they do. I know something must of been done at one of the dealerships out of Houston because they are trying to contact me like crazy again after this.

I for one - really hope that you get one (SSR that is) soon - this is dragging on way too long...

I wanted my SSR so bad - I bought the dealerships first allocation - my chase consisted of the 'wait' for "Little Wing" to be built!!!
