hey @ all

My R had to drive to the TÜV today (TÜV = Association for Technical Inspection)
You have to go to this technical exam every other year in Germany
Everything was approved
my truck passed the inspection
but the engineer said that the outside mirror on the driver's side in the dimming mode is, I should swap him at the next opportunity.
There are supposedly crystals in the mirror glass that dry out over time and the mirror is so darker.can I swap the mirror glass?
and where can I get it? is the mirror identical to that of the Corvette C5?
Any help will be gratefully received Thanks.

I don't know about any crystals, there is oil in between the glass.

Yes, the glass is same as 05 Corvette but mirror "stand off" is not the same.

Just change glass may not work because drive screws are different.

Worth looking at though.

Plastic attachment plate on back of SSR glass and Corvette glass is held on with double sided tape, can be exchanged (carefully) and you should be able to use Corvette Glass.

Upgrade to Muth mirrors from Simple Engineering might be a better option, if this ones going bad how much longer before the other one goes bad.

Only the driver's side view mirror (OEM glass) has the auto-dimming feature. The passenger side view mirror does not have that feature.

The Muth signal mirrors are always a good alternative, but keep in mind that you lose the auto-dimming feature with the Muth mirrors since that is a copyrighted feature they could not implement in their mirrors. The Muth mirrors do have the heating elements like the OEM mirrors, just not the auto-dimming feature on the driver's side mirror.

Thank you for the Information.

@ Dick, I do not have your craftsmanship can,
determined I would do more damage.:whistling:
@04 PurpleHaze and shiftz33.

The mirrors of Simple Engineering are a good Option,
but in Germany red flashing light is prohibited.

I believe they have one with Yellow LED too. I installed the red version. The kit is for both the C5 and the SSR

Hello Roman,

I can offer you two options....... (1)- I have a set of Muth mirror glass inserts available with amber turn signals for $195 plus shipping and (2)- I have the set of mirror glass inserts off my own SSR that were removed in 2006 with less than 5,000 miles for $150 plus shipping. If interested, contact me on email at [email protected].

Regards,

Mike
