Drag strip

I haven't been to the drag strip, but I have an accelerometer. As I've posted before, my fastest time was 6.3 0-60, with most times falling in around 6.5-6.7. Have not done 1/4 yet...because I'm not looking for a ticket, but talking about tickets...

I was headed from Virginia Beach back up to Atlantic City and I was stopped by a Maryland Trooper using laser in the median of the highway. He walked up to the truck and said "You were doing 66 in a 55." I didn't say anything. He said "I need to see you license and registration. I said "Here is my license and registration" as I handed them to him. He walked to the back of the truck and started writing. When he returned to my window he said "This is a warning. It does not have a fine and doesn't put points on your license". And then he walked away.

I've never received a warning before, which surprised me, but what surprised me more is that he didn't say anything about the SSR.

:cheers Whoa John! YOu were really lucky man. Glad it didn't cost ya. What about my 5.6 time? Oh, yea, that's when I wiggled the darn thing and got the false reading. Sure had me goin for a moment though! We are just going to have to check out those autocross runs when it gets a tad bit warmer in March. I am ready anytime after this snow mess leaves us. It should warm up here pretty soon in a couple of weeks. This should be winters last big blast for us. A few nippers will come and go but all in all,the worst will be over soon.

I was just thinking that I would go out to the local dragstrip to run it on a weds. night fun drags. All the road tests I have read say high 15's. I think that is a little disappointing and most people think its much faster. I want to get a base run before any mods are done

I recently made two passes down the quarter mile with our stock 2004.
The temp was in the mid 60s and low humidity.
With three quarters tank of gas and a passenger, my first pass was 15.65 at 87mph.
My second pass, same amount of gas and no passenger, was 15.45 at 88mph.
My eighth mile times were, 10.08 and 9.93 respectfully.
Both times, I did enough burnout to just clean off the tires, then left the line around 1500rpm. Didn't notice any tire spin when I launched.
First 60 foot time was 2.33, second was 2.27.

Today

With magachargerjust installed test and tune is the next 3 saturdays, noon till 5pm.
3 runs,best times

60' 2.078

330' 5.73

1/8 8.70 mph 82.91

1000' 11.281

1/4 13.459 mph 103.79

There is a some thing not quite rite, it would cut out going down the track.
The 3rd time it sputtered doing a burnout before staging and going down the track. So I did not run it again. Ed ran a low 10 with his firebird and he had no 2nd gear in the auto, unless he manuel shifted it. something in the tranny computer. That was fairly strong for no 2nd gear pull, 1st gear then right into 3rd.
He will have mine tues. We will see if he can do some magic to it. I will take it back out next saturday to see. The toyo tires hooked up very well for street tires.
This was fun, no race just put foot in it and go off the tree, and see how fast you go. You might be beside an 8sec car, so you dont worry about racing them. I hope the weather is good for next saturday. the temp said 91 on the track. If it would be in the 60's next week that could help. :thumbs :seeya

After being there today, my :ssr is not near as loud now! :lol :lol

BobA - Glad you were able to get it down the track. I hope you can get everything figured out with the sputtering. It feels good to be out there doesnt it. I cannt wait to get mine out!
Yes it did. I don't know if it's fuel or air? I think air. We will know. Ed is going to program new control moduals. to make sure he can do better. I dont think there will be a problem doing better. Thats what I like about ED. We would still have the HP tunin unharmed in the pcms on my :ssr now. He will dyno it before so I will know how the magna programin done, then one with Ed's programmin. He uses his own programmin, not HP, or any other companies. Figures it out on his own computers. Been doing it for years. I don't think some people understand.
If I had known that they had to send in my computers, I would have let Ed put on stock computers 1st or return mine to stock. John got some good Usefull free information out of those pcms. If I understand right THey both worked together at ligenfelter years ago. Now if someone can figure the speedo thing out for the 4.10 gears I will be happy. John now knows the auto and 6speed don't program the same for the gear change. HP programming was suppose to do it. NOT. It will get better thou about tues evening. :) :seeya

Hoping to get in the 12's. I think it can happen. Iam runin 6# boost with the headers, spikes to 8# on shifts.

We just bought our SSR less than a month ago. I raced it at Cordova Illinois at an event called "Hallowierd". Just a "fun day" with many of the drivers and spectators dressed in halloween cousumes. Still had the licence applied for sticker in the window. Some of the guys at the track thought I was just testing it out before I bought it. The tech guy said it was the 1st SSR they've had go down the track.
Now that we have a baseline to start with, we plan to do what we need to get it in the mid 14's without sacraficing driveability. We want to keep it as a long distance cruiser, as well as be able to play with it on the drag strip. Any suggestions?
The first thing I hope to change is the exhaust, because my wife says it's too quiet. She likes the sound of my 72 Charger better.
