Well, Chrysler kinda borrowed from the SSR! What took 'um so long...

Since Dodge isn’t offering the Hemi or a single cab in the 2005 Dakota, Chrysler Group SkunkWerks team chopped a Durango into this Dude concept. It reminds me a bit of the SSR in the roofline and bed area. The Dude mods include a cat-back dual exhaust, lowered suspension, new front and rear fascias, Ram SRT10 inspired composite hood, 20 inch Budnik billet wheels, and PPG Tangerine Pearl paint. I’m still perplexed why they didn’t use the Dakota as a donor, a Durango pickup is confusing. Since we are one of the first to get you this pic and info, I will update the links to another source as it becomes available.

Chrysler turning an SUV into a pickup...what a novel idea. Why didn't chevy ever think of that. Oh wait, they did. And they added the first ever collapsable midgate. Take a Suburban....chop the back roof off...add a removable window and midgate...and low and behold you have an avalanche. Change for a dollar?

Lookin4: Can you post the link to where yu got those shots from? I am curious. It appears to be a removable, as opposed to retractable top from the pics you posted. Either way, it is cool. By the way, if yu are in town on the 13th and 14th of Nov., there is another autocross event Sunday at Pungo and the anual all makes auto show at the Pavillion. That is a big show.

Chrysler designers cleverly combined the 600-horsepower V-10 engine from the Viper GTS-R with a Trans-Am chassis and a highly stylized pick-up truck body. It features a removable one-piece soft-top and a hydraulic clamshell that opens the hood from the side. A sense of humor is apparent in turn signals, which are labeled Ralph for right and Louie for left.

I saw it at the SEMA show, I didn't see a convertable in the roof though? Was this a different one? Or didn't I look, as it was a quick walk around it, I may have missed something....

Gee...

...maybe this has something to do with the similarities.

What do you get when you combine Dodge Viper GTS-R's monstrous 600-plus horsepower engine with a Trans Am-based chassis and design cues from great pickup trucks of yesterday and today? The answer, the 1997 Dodge Dakota Sidewinder concept truck, was unveiled early this afternoon by Robert A. Lutz, President and Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Corporation, at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) convention in Las Vegas
