Hi SSR MAD here and it looks like I have some real engine problems. I was on the 101 fwy going to downtown LA this morning and the engine just stopped on the fwy. I had
the Auto Club show up after a Highwayway Patrol man pushed me off the road to not block traffic. When I got in the vehicle it started up but had a distinct rattling coming form somewhere in the engine. after listening for a few minutes it stopped again. Had it towed to my local car repair and after draining the oil he found a lot of metal shavings. So now the questions is what to do next. I have 74,000 miles on it which isn't a lot for a 2005 and the 6.0 engine is supposed to be bull-it proof I thought? Has anybody had this kind on engine problem? I not sure if I should look for a re-built engine on have my engine rebuilt and where in LA is a good place to take it? Could use some advice!

Shavings in the oil is not a good sign. Keep in mind these trucks use the aluminum block which is not always easy to find in a rebuilt engine. I would go with rebuilding my engine. Sorry no ideas on a shop to rebuild it. A quick question first when it shut off was it like the key went off or was it like the engine locked up? If it was like the key shut off you may have the fuse box issue of it over heating the wire in it and it shuts down. Then after it cools down will start again?

If it is the fuse box several people here can repair it. Check with @TXNSSR.

If it was like the engine locked up, well that is a different story but usually when an engine locks up they aren't going to restart a little later.

I'm sorry to hear about your engine troubles, SSR MAD. It sounds like a concerning situation. Metal shavings in the oil can indicate serious internal issues with the engine, despite the low mileage on your 2005 SSR. While the 6.0 engine is known for its durability, issues can still arise. Considering your options, you might want to explore having the engine rebuilt or replaced. As for reputable places in LA, reaching out to local automotive communities or seeking recommendations from trusted mechanics could help guide you to a reliable repair shop. It's crucial to address the issue promptly to ensure the longevity of your SSR. Wishing you a smooth resolution!

We got your fuse box fixed a year or so ago, didn't we?

Getting a "rebuilt" engine is a crap shoot...you won't ever really know the true condition of a rebuilt or other replacement engine. The best thing...even if it costs a bit more...is to have your engine rebuilt by a reputable shop...in this way you will know the exact condition of your rebuilt engine and can take the opportunity to do some performance tweaks if you are so inclined...Thanks what I would do and what I have done in the past...
