Has anyone installed a factory navigation unit in their SSR? I am considering installing the unit that came in my Escalade w/ the Bose system.

Just wondering if any mods were needed. I think all I will need is the nav antena which is $50+/-.

I installed the navigation system that came with my marriage license. A whole lot more expensive, but I saved $50 on an antenna.

have a garmin gps mounted on top of my dash. works great. picture of it in my gallery. they are getting pretty reasonable to buy now, especially on e-bay

Check out the company listed in this post. I visited their store and saw some of their SSR install photos, including a nav system that fit the stock radio position. Very nicely done.

Megellan GPS

I have a Megellan Roadmate 500 mounted with suction cup on windshield. I move it between my other two cars. It is great.

I bought one from CompUSA and got a second one for my son on ebay, that way we share the maps cds. I have a 2 gig card in it and get all of the USA and Canada on it.

Jason has a plug-n-play system on his web site. It's the GM DVD Navigation system, which includes everything you need for the install. As for the gps antenna install, make sure you don't have any metal above it to interfere with it's reception. I've talked to Jason, and he is putting on the finishing touches for a SSR model, including coming up with a good locatgion the the antenna. I've bought quite a bit from him over the years. He carries nothing but top of the line products, plus he includes his own installation manual, which is very easy to follow. :thumbs

We haven't been able to test it in an SSR yet, but chances are it will work perfectly. Same radio system, just different body vehicle.
