As promised, here are some views of a work in progress--flames and photos courtesy of Dennis at Cosmic Airbrush in Honolulu www.cosmicairbrush.com. As REBEL noted, Dennis in well-known for his seascapes and tropical artwork on beetles and Hummers, but as you can see, I think he does a pretty awesome set of flames. So far, my expectations are exceeded and I feel really silly for thinking about doing vinyl at one point.

More photos when finished!

Aloha!

Yeah, now considering bed cover airbrush

What about the bed cover? There is a lot of Real Estate there to decorate.

David:

You read my mind! After seeing how the flames are turning out, I've been thinking about flaming the tonneau too! Appreciate everyone's comments. Here are a few more photos of Dennis at work!

Try asking the people at Valley Collision Center on Armagosa. They are really helpful. Also I have seen some great flames up there! Some of the people told me where they got their paint job but I forgot.

Thanks Eric, I'll talk to them tomorrow...they are right down the street from work
Have been tempted to flag down a local truck that passes by each a.m. before leaving for work...they'll probably think I'm :willy: :confused :cool or just plain :mad

Here are the final pics before reassembly. Should pick up this afternoon. Has anyone consided or checked into getting Clear Shield? It is made from ultra-strong urethane and virtually undetectable and backed by a five year warranty. Usually tinting places install. www.clearshield.com

As politely and smoothly as I know how. Not my cup of tea! The "flames" are symetrical, too big, too few and the tips are too long. I like how they are done fairly subtley, though. I guess I will never look at flames the same way again after seeing what some painters/artists are doing with ""FIRE." I have seen what truly looks like fire painted on vehicles and it has become my fav.

have yet to see any "realistic" flames that appeal to me...stylized flames are more complimentary to the contemporary lines of the SSR

You were actually very polite. I did look into all types of flames with many examples coming from this site. The real flames are pretty cool looking, and Dennis is a master airbrushing those types of flames as well, but they definitely are not a good look for a slingshot yellow vehicle. They are much better suited on a black or dark vehicle like this Smokin' Asphalt from SEMA.

I really wanted more of a vintage, classic or retro type of flame and am really pleased with how they turned out. Vintage is timeless, trendy comes and goes.

I have always been more of a stock kind of guy... except for wheels or subtle pinstripes I like to keep it close to the original look... that comes from my earlier Vette days.

However I do like your flames as well as llogers and few others on here too. I have to say real flames (to me) are very trendy where as your flames are the old hot rod vintage types that I sure do like best! Great Job on the flames they look great to me! :thumbs

Certainly everyone has their favorites... that is why we have so many great mods out there, to customize them to our own personal tastes!
