Have been looking all this week to buy a new 05 SSR with the new 390hp engine.
When I browse the car magizine reviews, they say that they get about 12 mpg in the city, plus need to use premium gas!!! Ouch! Does anybody have an 05 and do they get that kind of mileage,or how many miles per tankfull?? Thanks.....

Have 2005 with auto has 2700mi. Have never reset avg mpg meter. It shows 17.1 mpg that city, highway, air on, air off, up hill , down hill, pull trailer for 400 miles, (5x10 enclosed with chopper 1700lb total) It towed great. I think thats pretty good for 390 HP. Yea gas expense but you can't beat the smiles per miles :)

Mine seem to get 17 - 18 going to work at about 65-70 mph.
I think on a open road it would get 20 or better at 70+ with
auto tran.
But YES, you need the premium gas, if you want to keep the
horse power.
If you are going to putt-putt around, you could use the middle
grade.

My average is closer to the 14 to 15 range but then again most of my driving is in the city (stop and go). Highway with cruise is much closer to 20. I suppose if you had a really heavy foot you could get it down to 12..

I get about 15.4 overall, and don't use premium gas. A page from the owner's manual states as follows...

Gasoline Octane
Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane
of 91 or higher for best performance. You may also
use middle grade or regular unleaded gasoline rated at
87 octane or higher, but your vehicle’s acceleration
may be slightly reduced.
If the octane is less than 87,
you may get a heavy knocking noise when you drive.
If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or
higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you might
damage your engine.
Gasoline Specifications
It is recommended that gasoline meet specifications
which were developed by automobile manufacturers
around the world and contained in the World-Wide Fuel
Charter which is available from the Alliance of Automobile
Manufacturers at www.autoalliance.org/fuel_charter.htm.
Gasoline meeting these specifications could provide
improved driveability and emission control system
performance compared to other gasoline.

Hey Bat,

My 05 gets 14.6 around town in Sarasota, FL with no highway driving. I have been putting premium fuel in it at 93 octane but someone suggested here that they sometimes use 91 octane. I am retired and am only going to put 5,000 miles or so a year on the spedo, so I really don't care about milage. I'll continue to use the 93 octane and enjoy the blast and the ride.

Regards,

Sarasota Joe

HAHAHAHA, Zack is the MAN, 9MPG!!!, LOL! You must leave the garage WOT, LOL. I have an '05 auto and drive it daily. I got about 1700 miles so far and would normally expect a little bump with break-in. I'm not sure with these here new fangled engines. I run premium gas. I live at the west end of the Columbia River Gorge, lots of mountain roads. I work in the valley and drive about 50 miles a day on the highway, 10 of which is afternoon rush hour stop and go, it's terrible. SO it is a pretty good mix of driving, and I do an occ WOT too.

MPG resets have been: 17.5, 16.8, 17.2, 16.7, 17.0. I calculated the first fill-up manually and got close to 18. Looks like about 17 on average for me. I am sure a nice flat highway run would be real close to 20mpg, and then there's Zack, lol. Just teasing Zack. :grouphug

Fuel Mileage....

I have an '05 6 speed.
Around town I use 91 octane and stand on it through the gears all the time. I don' calculate the fuel consumption during that time.....I just enjoy it!!!!!!!
On the highway I use 87 octane (regular) no, pings, no knocks. The engine has a knock sensor, that retards the timing and anything else it has to do to prevent engine damage. On the highway (80-85+) it gets 19.5 to 22.0 MPG.
