Gauge Lighting is UGLY - any ideas?

I Love my '04, but aside from the obnoxious "TINK" driveshaft noise which confoundingly seems to be considered "normal" :skep (?!?!) the only other thing I think is unneccessarily pathetic in the SSR (but should be easily fix-able) is the gauge lighting at night.

The needles, at best, are a pale, sickly beige color. And all the backlit digits are an anemic almost-aqua. Even set to the brightest setting, the whole thing is dim and yawn-able. I think it's fair to say that for a car that kicks butt with it's "coolness factor" it's sad that nearly every other car on the road kicks it's interior butt at night. Even low-end VWs have better candy in the dash. The only thing that has any meat in the SSR dash lighting is the odometer and the stereo clock, and that's because those are exposed LEDs.

I have scoured the net looking for a handsome gauge face, or guage lighting kit that's made for the SSR- but like most other accessories- there isn't anything out there.

Has anyone else found the dull night gauges annoying/ho hum- and anyone done anything about it?

Thanks!

I know they make LED backlights for the guages but I am not sure if it includes the lighting behind the needle. Checkout products from Streetglow or Ichibahn, maybe that will help.

more ideas?

Well, thanks Daij. I've looked around, but have found no related products from either of those companies.

I can't be the only person who finds the gauge lighting exceedingly dull. Has ANYONE customized theirs?? :yesnod

.
Not sure, but worth a shot

Speedhut.com has guage lighting for other cars and trucks, with some really creative little bonus options, fairly decent pricing..........but i dont think they have done SSR guages yet.

Maybe if a few contact them, they'll do it.
The gauge lighting was done that way for a reason.. It is a throwback look to the 50's truck...

I can honestly say I don't have a problem with the look.. I spend more time trying to watch out for other Idiots trying to run over my truck than looking down at the gauge cluster... :mad

Same here.

Had a near miss last week while heading to my buddies shop. Someone in an older chrysler mini van wasn't looking, and tried to moved into my driving lane :mad .

Keep an eye out for those that aren't.
