Had the unpleasant experience of leaving work on Monday and not seeing my buggy in the parking garage. No glass on the ground either. Needless to say I had a lot of anger built up towards the thugs while waiting for police to arrive. After 2+ hours I made another call to them and dispatch said that since a hurricane (Rita) was approaching they were busy and if I could stop at a local station and file a vehicle theft report. I had no problem with that since it was starting to get nasty out. I stopped at the police station on the way home and the first thing I was asked for was the registration. I explained that it was in the truck. (Ready for this nightmare?). Unincorporated Dade County will take a stolen vehicle report if the police come to you. If you go to the station you MUST have the registration or a copy. This was at 6:00pm and the tag agency closed and will be closed on Tuesday (Rita), so I would have to get the copy on Wednesday and then file the report. Yep, 48 hours to file a report on a vehicle that is very distinctive. As I was leaving the station, with my mouth hung open and controlling my temper (not a good idea to scream & yell in a police station) I asked the person in charge what about the LoJac? (don't have one, just curious)

Response. Can't do anything without a vehicle theft report.
Anger has transferred from the thugs to the police and their stupid procedure

I do miss my buggy

Geez! I think I'll be a car theif in Florida - profitable and apparently without consequences! OP, was this your SSR that was stolen? First TALLNLA and now you? What's going on here? Did someone find an easy way to steal SSRs and dispose of them?

I hope this episode has a good ultimate result for you - keep us posted.

Not Seeing Buggy

I feel so bad for you Olde Pharte! I couldn't and don't even want to have to go thru the greif you have had too.

I'm not to happy to hear this! Let's hope we don't make the list of the 10 ten most stolen vehicles. I already pay to much for insurance!

Anyone got any ideas for why they are stealing our SSR's. What would be the demand? I mean they are a small production number. It's not like they are turning them around for parts.

God this makes me so angry :mad

what about the theft protection?

Didn't I see a thread here somewhere that if the SSR were rolled backward without the key in it, that it would not start again without some special voodoo known only to GM?

If I have the gist of it correct, that would mean that no one is pulling up and trailering an SSR off to steal it - or they are getting a big surprise when they do.

Again, another reason to bring back the Death Penalty. (I know, I know, before you PM me, I’m just venting)

But seriously, rules and laws are just wrong. You take a $40,000 vehicle, add the pain and suffering and loss of income to the owner and you are adding 1000’s to that.....and the police act like it’s no big deal.

Now take 5000 from a bank and they chase you around for 3 hours while the whole world watches then they arrest you at gunpoint.

Something is wrong here......My $0.02

The Smiles are Back

The red buggy is probably on the beach in South America (or at the bottom of a miami canal). The insurance did excellent at reimbursement of 91%. They also sent me a letter stating that they would consider the sales tax on a replacement vehicle. Never heard of this before, we'll see. I was gonna wait for the orange, but with Lansing closing and wanting one NOW..... I began searching and couldn't find a red or blue (6 speed) within 100 miles. Frustration started setting in and I increased my search farther north. Any farther and I could have visited Mickey Mouse.

drum roll......

I brought home an 06 blue yesterday. ahhhhh, the smiles are back, so was the 1 mile police escort (gawking/drooling/wishing) on the florida turnpike. Let the grins begin again

Nice ride. Now what do you like better about the '06 then the '05? I know you like the color better. But what else? Just wondering that's all. :thumbs
