Good news # 1....

I was at a motorcycle show this weekend and found these Super Bright White LEDS that I am going to mount on the bottom of each side of the dash to light up the foot wells. They came in chrome or black housing and I picked the black so if they hang down at all, it will blend into the dash's color (Don't think it will though)

Good News # 2....

I just received the Delphi MyFi portable XM radio. I can set this on the dash and with the built-in antenna and WITHOUT WIRES, I can transmit XM radio to my SSR (or any other car) radio. ALSO, if you are going to be somewhere that may not have access to the sky (satellites), you can RECORD 5 hours of music from XM and play it back at anytime! AND, in case the signal is weak near you, it came with a car kit, home kit and clip on antenna for your clothing for jogging or walking. That's right, three (3) separate antennas!

Those Are Great!

Those are Great! What is the brand name and model of the LED? I am tired of getting out my flashlite if I need additional lighting to read something or see if I dropped something on the floor. These would make it so that I didn't have to use the flashlite or park in a lighted area. The black interior makes it impossible to see anything down there, especially at night.

It's Done!!!!!!!

First of all, pardon the quality of the pictures. Taking them at night can be a real bear.........

OK, thanks to a LOT of help from Ken Thurm and Black Magic on how to get the kick panel off and to SSR290 for telling me which wire to look for, I got the LED lights installed.

Here is the BEFORE shot..............

And the AFTER shot.......

For those of you thinking of doing it, behind the right kick panel, there are three (3) connectors, two (2) BIG ones and one (1) small one. The gray wire with black stripe is in the BIG one closest to the firewall.

One splice, some two sided tape to mount the LEDs and about 90 minutes worth of work, (most of it upside down under the dash) and you can have the same results!

DANG! I just noticed how far off center my XM Radio antenna is. Gotta go fix that right now!

Film at 11:00................

One more update, found out that computer controlled things don't always act the way you think. Example, the LED lights come on when you open the doors, but do NOT come on when you press the light switch on the mirror! Interesting......

**The wire you tapped to power the LEDs is a +12 volts with the lights mounted to ground, this is also one way that the mirror lights work with the door.

**The mirror lights are also connected to a constant +12 volts. When you press the button on the mirror it connects the light to ground and disconnects the power from the door switch, to make it work when the doors are closed.

WHEW! The knowledge that we can get on this forum. It's amazing!

Yes, SSR290, I really do understand what your saying, but as long as the lights come on when I open the doors, I'm happy.

Again, thanks for your help.

HI John,

I am glad you tackled that task... I would love to add those lights under my dash too. Perhaps later this spring I will get her out of winter storage and look at it.

Thanks for all your detailed photos too! As always another first rate job from Buffy! :thumbs

Nice job, John,
I see you got off your butt before I got off mine! Have had the lights for a month and almost started in, but I see my laziness has paid off once again :lol Great, detailed instructions.
Looks real good!

Ken,

I too am installing under the dash lites and would like them to come on when the headlites are on. ( I pull the hand brake to turn them off during the day!) I just want them to shine at nite! Where do I attach the hot wire?? got any ideas?

living2be,

They are white LEDs and I used double-backed tape to attach them to the bottom of the dash. Below is a picture of the LED on the passenger side, just below the glove box. It's a pretty simple installation........
