Well, next to Lookin4anSSR, I guess I have the market share on probs. with my baby. This week someone pulled in front of me and another was backing into me and the horn failed!!!!! Fortunately I installed a second horn for fun and it allerted the bozo drivers to get off the cell and pay attention to their driving. It seems the horn will work when I pull the steering wheel one way but not when I pull it another. The problem is intermittent and most likely has to do with one of the contact points on the steering column.

Haven't had the problem with the SSR but I have had the problem with other vehicles. It seems to be related to contamination on the ring that makes the contact in the steering column. The 2 times it happened to me the contact ring was cleaned and the problem was solved. It seems that it's related to your proximity to the salt mist in the air near the coast line. Sounded reasonable to me :confused

I believe I read a service bulletin that that your problem it is a direct result of autocrossing!

Buff,

Very funny (I laughed out loud)!!

This problem reminds me of living in Korea a while. Every driver there uses their horn almost constantly, not rudely, but as a kind of courtesy to let people know they are coming (at intersections, for pedestrians, while passing close by another driver involved in a manuever that might take their attention). I know in some parts of the US this is probably more prevalent (you New Yorkers might do this), too, but here in rural Oklahoma my horn could fail for a week and I wouldn't know it. My Korean friends could not believe that and thought I would be a dangerous driver. Hmmm.

I read a story a while back about an area where they have banned horns on vehicles. (somewhere in Europe I think). After a while they found that the accident rate had gone down considerably. People had to pay more attention to what they were doing.
Around here some drivers use the horn instead of the brake. It seems they would rather hit you with horn blasting than slow down a little and make it safely to where they are going. :confused

Some drivers hold up one finger rather than putting one thumb on the horn button :nono
