How Low Can They Go?

Browsing through E-Bay "SSR's for Sale" today and there are lots and lots of 2003, 2004, and 2005's for sale. A Chevy dealer (Ryan Motors) in Buffalo, Mn. has a brand spanking new 2004, Silver, listed at $32,500 Buy it Now Price. Dealer says he also has other colors for sale. This is about the best price I've seen thusfar for a showroom new SSR. Several 2005's listed for sale at invoice. This sure is a different market than it was a year ago when I was shopping for a new SSR. I'm really glad that I intend to keep my 2003 for a long, long time because I'd hate to take a $20,000 hit in just one year. That represents a 46% first yr. depreciation rate which is really high when compared to other new vehicles. Potential SSR buyers are really in a great position in this market place. Looks like GM over produced and over priced the 2003 and 2004 models. Hope they learned something from this and will take steps to prevent it from reoccurring.

There is always someone who say they will sell a dollar or two cheaper , but that is not always your best deal.

Give your local dealer every opportunity to make your deal , your local dealer has the investment in your community of real estate , a local payroll , pays taxes locally , and best of all there is a team to give you after sales service.
I think those prices are so low because of the color, What do you think marc

There actually is some truth to that. Yellow SSr's were selling for $1,500.00 more than any other color early in the model run.
Sure do seem to be a lot of silvers on that list :lol :lol
Bright colors needed!

I think that people who live in Phoenix need brighter colors to be able to more readily find their cars that might be parked out in the sand. :glol
I bought a 04 SSR today from my local dealer..it was a win-win. He really wanted to sell it and I really wanted to buy it. I pick it up on Monday.

eBay $30,600 reference

Really doubt your dealer can return to GM and there is no way a wholesale auction will bring what the eBay pricing is if only because the guys going to the auction see eBay as part of the retail market....

Further, the dealer selling the SSr today is both reputable and knowledgable (and very close to the Lansing Craft Center) such that I would suggest he knows when to hit the bid and when to pass... he is selling at these prices because that is what it takes to move the iron...

The market is what it is and today that is hardly $30k for a well equiiped NEW SSr
.

For those who asked via email et cetera.... the eBay reference for this sale is

here is a quote from Mike Richmond for a new 05: (see the classified ads)

I have one brand new 2005 Ricochet Silver SSr in stock. $1,000.00 Below invoice to a good home. This SSr stickers for $48,185.00. Invoice is $44,956.60. SSRFANATIC.COM members can buy it for $43,956.60, subtract $1,500.00 owner loyalty and you get $42,456.60 plus $40.00 Doc. fee and state fees.

The diff between the 05 car above and the 04 I was looking @ $36,000 is $6456.
The 04 had a couple more accessories but not thousands of dollars worth.

The diff in price is enough from me to consider an 04....but I 'd really like the stick and bigger engine. Looks like I wait and hope to get a better deal on the 05.
Would suggest that the pricing you are seeing for the 05 SSr is "competetive" but that the 04 quote is way above what the US market is trading at (i.e. 04's are going for less than $32k BEFORE the affinity discount)

The price listed on the '04 was not a price from me. I quoted him nearly $1200.00 less than that on the same SSr. That SSr stickered for $48,215.00 (most expensive '04 I've ever quoted). I quoted it at $500.00 over dealer net.

Thanks,
Mike
I Bought Mine in Buffalo Minnasota

Everyone,

Thank you for your comments. I bought mine from Ryan Chevrolet in Buffalo Minnasota. I really would'nt have known about it had I not logged on and gotten information. Thank you for your contributions. I was able to get a black one with the 1SB package for under 33K! Getting it to me was a challenge! I live out of state and there were a lot of shipping and delivery issues mostly because people did not keep their word. However now that I have it. I really love it. It is actually the first truck I ever owned and my second chevy. Chevy says they are revitalizing themselves. If the SSR is any indication I may yet purchase another chevy in the future. :seeya
Can you get me the invoice's on 5B119246 and 5B117999? The dealers out here in California will not budge. They say they will be losing money if they go below invoice. I am hoping getting the invoice price from you may help me in my negotiations.

I understand that it may not be practical for some of you to come up to Michigan to buy your next vehicle. If you contact me I can give you a price on what I would sell you a vehicle for and you may be able to use that as leverage at your local dealer. Things are very different here, as there are 10 Chevy dealers within 15 miles of my dealership. Let it be clear that I am here to help however I can, whether you are considering buying a vehicle from me or not. If you give me the last 8 numbers of the vin I can give you a price on any new Chevy.

Thanks,
Mike Richmond

Selling Below Invoice

OK , LET'S DO OUR MATH , IF THE DEALERS SELL IT FOR LESS THAN INVOICE (WHAT THEY PAY FOR THE VEHICLE) THEY WILL LOOSE MONEY . SOUNDS RIGHT TO ME. HOW WOULD THEY MAKE MONEY SELLING FOR LESS THAN THEY PAY FOR IT ?

AT this point they are losing money every day they sit on the car on the dealership's floor plan...so at this pont some dealers have paid almost 12 months of interest and they want out also they will make up some of the loss in the back office if you let them do the loan and they might also sell some extra which is all profit.....
also if you have a Trade they will make money on that as well...

you can't make money on every deal..... if things don't sell they have to cut the price till does.......

The dealer does get interest free days and have good floor plans , but then again maybe the dealer could loose a little on each vehicle they sell and make it up by selling lots of vehicles :D

.... yea one year free money time 5 or 6 ssrs. ...Sure thing... sign me up..... i never said lose money on every car deal.... clearly they make the loses on folks that have more money than sense, and if you read my post i said they may lose up front but they will try to make back in the back end....... if you are going to qoute me do the whole post not what fits you point of view Dan rather.... fact of life today and now they are losing $1100 to $1900 that is if they want to move the 2004 SSR.... sorry That is A "FACT"....

Invoice is what the dealer says he pays and on paper thats probably right. But then you have to figure in the approx, 3% holdback from GM and then I have heard there are other "bonus money" given to the dealer for volume, etc. So what is the actual cost of the vehicle to the dealer? We will probably never really know. When they sell at invoice they are still making money.
Pricing is a numbers game. There are dealers out there that as a rule sell cars at or near invoice. Basic business 101 says you can't stay in business without making a profit, so there has to be a profit in there at "invoice".
