I've been very lucky, had very few problems with my SSR.
I backed out of the driveway last Friday evening, and when I shifted into drive, I heard a big
CLUNK!!! When I took off it felt like the SSR had no power at all. I thought immediately of Cruz'n Ed. I ran it up to about 50MPH and realized that I hadn't felt the transmission shift. It was locked in Drive and that's why it felt like it didn't have any power. Had it flat-bedded over to the dealer Friday evening and I got it back this afternoon, Tuesday.
After checking everything out, it turned out to be the ignition switch. Something screwed up in the ignition switch, which screwed up the air bag, which screwed up the computer. They replaced the ignition switch, and everything seems to be fine. I drove it quite a bit this afternoon and no more problems, but I'll keep my eye on it for awhile.

Bingo!

I suspect that was cruzned's problem also, the dealer just took the scenic route to find it. This is by no means a slam to Ed's dealer, when the ECU is involved, or suspected to be involved in the problem, diagnosis is more than a little tricky! I am wondering how many of us will also have the ignition switch issue as our trucks begin to age a little :confused

Well, I'm in the same boat. Pulled in to the parking lot yesterday, put it in park, foot on the brake, raised the top, turned the engine off, truck rolls backwards. Go to restart it and see it's in R but the gear shifter is in park. :banghead No it would't release to let me reshift it. Also tried the disconnect the battery trick :nodno

Call for a tow and say I have an SSR & need a flatbed, lady says no we can send out a standard. Tell her if I'm standing around waiting for the flatbed because the standard can't tow the SSR I'll be more pis$$ed that what I already am.

So it's at the stealer and I have a 4 door Cavalier :thumbs yeah, I'm styling now!

Back when

Back when I was having my stereo installed, the guy hooked something up wrong which kept blowing a fuse for the top. I couldn't put the top back up and I wound up driving it to the dealer just down the road. But what amazed me is that the transmission didn't shift past second....so a blown fuse for the top affected the transmission. It is really weird how this car is networked together.

I have had this same problem on my Tahoe but it had a LOT of miles on it maybe a switch defect since it seems to be happening on lower mileage vehicles.

But Ed didnt' say anything about his being locked in a wrong gear!! I am glad it is fixed and I hope it stays that way for your trip!!!

An Adventure Everytime

Lloyd

Sorry to hear you had some problems, sounds like they were resolved without too many issues? Read pg. 110 in your book, "SSR an American Original," this is no truck the backyard mechanic will fix. Fifteen Zone Modules, Multiplexing (uses individual wires for multiple tasks), LAN System, Local Area Network, and (6) six computers.
I guess every time we turn the key it will be an adventure. We better never let the warranty lapse :thumbs :thumbs

My 05 SSR with 900 miles, the 2 check engine lights come on after driving about 45 minutes. The engine power cutsdown, wont shift past second gear, and I can't go over 35 mph. Turning the engine off for 30 seconds cures the problem for a little while.

It's off to the dealer.
